Plenty of Dry Cleaners will provide this service, and not necessarily at great cost. If you live near Seefeld, there's a Spanish woman named Carmen who has a table and machine - and that's about it - in her little workshop just by Fröhlichstrasse tramstop (trams 2 and 4, bus 32). Very affordable and quick_quick_quick. Try also Angela's Dry Cleaners on Münchhaldenstrasse and speak to Martina (English speaking) who's an absolute dear and understands customer service.

Do you know the address of that spanish lady ?
I am also searching for an alterations tailor, that does a good work and is not expensive.

I go to the Naehatelier at Migros City on Loewenstr. I have my trousers hemmed there, takes an hour or less and costs 20 or 25 CHF.

Hi
This is an old post but I thought I'll give these people a plug for clothing alterations, they did a great job on my top (shortened and shoulder straps added). The girl working at counter was very professional and two guys at the back doing the alterations. they're called "Stecknadel" located at Banhnhof Stadelhofen (Zurich) just opposite Outback Restaurant. I know how hard it is to find good tailors - and they have a website with price listing.
Cheers

| | | jeans alterations in Zürich?
Hi everyone,
I bought some fancy jeans, and of course they're long enough for a 6 foot tall woman. Since I'm only 5'6", I need them hemmed. Does anyone know a reliable tailor who can move the original seam? It is called a tricky hem or a european hem in the US, but probably not here, though! I'm afraid they'll be ruined by a simple hem.

Hi,
I have no idea about jeans alterations but saw an ad at the Militär-Langstrasse bus stop tailor, I think it was 15.- or 25.- CHF. No idea if they know what they're doing though.

Hi everyone,
Just to update, I chose a seamstress close to Bahnhof Oerlikon and showed her the tricky hem (cutting and moving the original hem when shortening jeans) I had done in S.F. previously. She was able to do two hems as well as fix an unintentional rip in another pair of jeans for 60 CHF. It took about one and a half weeks and the quality is very good. I can highly recommend her.

One small thing-she said she's not comfortable speaking English on the telephone, though we managed to communicate fine in person.

There is one in Stadelhofen right next to the chinese restaurant. I do not remember the name but he has done several alterations for me and my kids. Charges 25 Franks and takes a couple of days.

I have been to the stadelhofen place - very good but quite $$
Any one know of one that is cheap - I am thinking around 10-15CHF to shorten a pair of pants (basic hemming)?
Any up Pfaffikon SZ direction?
such a pain being short!! |

I've used a tailor in the Regensdorf Zentrum (or shopping mall) just north of Zurich in Regensdorf (S6 - 16min on S-bahn from Zurich HB. 5min walk to the Zentrum mall, on ground floor.)
Can't recall what was charged, but 20-35 chf sounds about right. Typically painful swiss price, but I'd be surprised to find cheaper in Zurich center, as this place was quite basic and functional, nothing fancy looking, as the Regensdorf mall is quite "average swiss" with lower prices than the ex-pat-centric city center. Did the hemming of some athletic pants the same day, picked them up an hour or two later.

When I was working in ZH, I used to take alterations to Jelmoli on the Bahnhofstrasse. I think I paid about 20.- CHF for a tricky hem, and it was done in under a week. You can also take alterations to most Vögele shops which will also charge around 20.- CHF.

| | | Seamstress/clothing alterations needed (Zurich)
Hello,
Anyone know of, or is, an English-speaking seamstress?
I have an old, thick flying jacket like a WWII pilots jacket that I had a bit of work done to back in blighty. I never quite finished getting it fitted and would like to know if it can be done here.
The material is THICK so we're not talking needle and thread here. It would need to be stitched on some heavy duty machinery. Is there anywhere that anyone knows of in the Zurich area?
Near Wadenswil or Horgen even better!

We use Florida which is in the Waldegg Center, Einsiedlerstrasse 301, 8810 Horgen. It's just off the road from Horgen up to the A3 motorway. The woman speaks broken English but we get on fine.
