Re: Slow Cooker

I second the request for one!

I have been looking in Switzerland and Germany since I moved here four years ago.

Re: Slow Cooker

I left my 3.5L one back in Canada

BUT my mom bought me smaller one (1.5L, perfect for 2 people!) and I brought as a carryon in May!

I was DYING without one. I kept asking for *crockpots*...lol

it was a pain in the *** to bring back with me, but well worth it!!!

if I see them anywhere, I'll be sure to post it.

Re: Slow Cooker

I asked in a few shops and they knew what it was but I had no suggestions as to where to get one.

Re: Slow Cooker

Is a 'slow-cooker' a pressure cooker? If so, try looking in a Bröckenhaus - I've often seen them going for around CHF10-20. Bargain!

No, a pressure cooker is a very different thing.

Here's an example on Amazon, but it can only be shipped to the UK

Re: Slow Cooker

Obvious gap in the market eh? I'd have thought they'd be popular here. There is nothing nicer than coming home to a nice stew or slow roasted chicken after work knowing the works all done and that it will be delicious. Plus you can use the cheaper cuts of meat and the are still so tender.

I'm going to have to go and eat something now.

I'm really surprised they aren't popular here. I'm also equally surprised they're available in the UK (I admit, I never looked there). Next time I go, I will have to get one.

Couldn't tell you much about the meats (we're vegetarian), but you can't beat the convenience. Also, casseroles and soups have the time to let the flavors and spices really mix and get more intense by the time you do eat them.

Re: Slow Cooker

And green too which I'm lead to believe is popular here. They only use the same energy as a light bulb so although you leave them on all day its nothing compared to an oven. Plus the heat a much smaller space.

Re: Slow Cooker

Yeah I didn't mention the joy of coming home to a hot stew or roast on a cold day. Especially when all the food has been gentely cooked and crumbles in the mouth. Throw in some cheap wine and some herbs and spice with some roughly cut veg and/or meat in the morning turn it on and get home to the fragrent smell of a deliscous meal.

I should get a job with the slow cooker marketing board

Re: Slow Cooker

Sorry to revive such an old thread -- in case people are still looking for a slow cooker in Switzerland, looka here:
http://en.toppreise.ch/index.php?search=Slow+Cooker
Migros (m-electronics and leshop.ch) has one, and there is another, more expensive one, with 3 temperature settings instead of two.
(Wikipedia says Steingut, which the latter seems to be made of, could contain lead paint)

Re: Slow Cooker

mrs. and I bought a slow cooker last week at Migro.

( and yesterday morning I braised off a couple of lamb shanks and tossed them in the cooker with a good load of (pre-soaked) black eyed peas..... delicious dinner last night but to be honest I'm a bit afraid to move this morning TMI ? )

Re: Slow Cooker

I bought a slow cooker and tried it a couple times with poor results: the flavor was bland, and no matter how much herbs and spices I added to the meat, there was very little taste of them in the end, like the flavor was just cooked out everything.

What am I doing wrong?

what were you using for cooking liquid ?

you need a good stock, or wine to begin with ( and then begin adding herbs, etc...)

Re: Slow Cooker

I use my rice cooker: there is a mode whereby you maintain the temperature of the liquid inside.

Red wine, soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, heaps of garlic, onions, pepper, you name it. It always came out sort of a mushy tasteless mess (6 to 8 hours on the lowest setting).
