Man needing help using an oven!!

Moved into a flat which has a old style cooker- the hob is easy as just point the hand held spark thing near the gas and click!

But on the oven not sure where the gas is coming from, have pressed down the gas and clicked the spark around but nothing. Though better try asking before continuing as had an image of a big explosion as was sparking away in there

It is an Electrolux & has a flap at the base of the oven near the front which can be pulled up to show a pipe running underneath.

Re: Man needing help using an oven!!

My gas oven had it in the middle at the front, a fluted chube with an opening. It had a solid metal plate with a hole in the middle in the front. When I couldn't get the flame to light through the hole I used to remove the plate and then it was quite easy. However I had to turn the oven knob to around 3 before it worked. Good luck!

Stop...please stop!! For your own safety. Don't you know anything? It takes a woman to work domestic appliances. Don't tamper with nature. These things weren't designed with men in mind. There must be a woman in your apartment block. Be safe. Call in an expert.

Should't really thank you Nev, but I once worked with a Gynaecological consultant whose comforting words to women undrrgoing total abdominal hysterectomy were 'Don't worry love, you'll be back doing the washing up before you know it'.
On the other hand, I am totally jealous of anyone who has gas to cook with.

Totally off subject but reminds me of when my wife was in the delivery room. Poor thing was in labour for twenty odd hours. In the small hours of the morning a young nurse came in to ask how things were going. They chatted a few minutes and at some stage my wife asked the nurse if she had a any kids. No, replied the nurse, she hadn't any kids. "Oh well you never know one day you might be lying here" said my wife "I hope not" said the nurse "I'm a nun"!
