English Books

I just got my son's summer reading book list. They are books in English. I assume the best way is to order over amazon.de under English books - this may sound like a stupid question:

Are the books written in English or are they books written by English speaking authors in German?

I tried searching this under English books, books written in English on this site and didn't find anything.

Thanks,
Fraueli

Re: English Books

In the "english books" section on amazon.de you find books written in english.
You may want to check also play.com as a good source, prices are often lower than amazon and shipping is also free.

Re: English Books

Another great site is bookdepository.co.uk, The prices are often discounted and there is no delivery charge for Switzerland.

Re: English Books

It seems like anytime my DH has ordered from Amazon.de, he's been hit with duty and fees. Not sure why. I order all my books from Amazon.com, and I've never been charged any duty or fees.

Yep, I buy at least a dozen books a month through this one, and they've always arrived safely and pretty promptly. Would definitely recommend.

Re: English Books

Do you want to try us with the list? Someone here might have one or more of the books that they are happy to give/swap/sell you.

I've got a bag of books waiting to go to the Caritas shop on Birmensdorferstrasse where they have a small but decent selection on sale for 3CHF each. Other places with English books include the Neugasse Brockenhaus and Brocki-land on Steinstrasse.

Otherwise, I ordered from amazon.co.uk a couple of weeks ago, for novels it was far cheaper than bookdepository even taking shipping into consideration. I found Amazon.de had poor selection and high prices.

My amazon.co.uk order came very quickly I'm glad to report and no tax either.

Re: English Books

You might also want to consider this one:
http://www.expatica.com/ch/survival/...ish-books.html

There you can find a list with online bookshops that deliver within Switzerland.

Hope that helps,
Sascha

Re: English Books

Thanks for the offer Sascha112, but we're set. It turns out that the list had a couple of books already read. There isn't anything mandatory on the list as I first thought. Since we hadn't received the list before we came over, I did buy 2 books that were required reading for his school in the US and we're going to stick with those.

Thanks everybody for all the helpful tips. I know what to do next time.

Re: English Books

Why not just order from play.com

Free delivery, they stock nearly every book at discount prices...
