Grad School

Hello All,

I was hoping someone knows about Webster University in Geneve (or Leiden)? What is the school like? Has anyone gone through the International Relations masters program there?

Thanks in advance,

Kate

Re: Grad School

I presume you have looked at the Home Page but prefer information from someone who knows it personally. There was a question about Webster Uni last October and it didn't get any replies. Perhaps someone can help this time.
Good luck with the search.

Re: Grad School

Webster University does not have a particularly good reputation. It is ofter referred to as a school for spoiled, unambitious children of rich people living in and around the lakeside tax haven.

Having said that, although not a centre of academic excellence, it is not completely useless since some faculty also teach at Geneva University or have experience from international organisations. I also heard that social life at Webster is not bad, but that is perhaps more relevant for an undergraduate.

If you are serious about studing international relations in Geneva, then HEI of the Geneva University is the place to go.

It is not an accredited Swiss University.

*** disclaimer: i work at Webster ***
Webster is an institutionally accredited university in the US. This accreditation extends to all campuses, including the Geneva campus. Therefore, undergraduate and graduate degrees are recognized around the world just as if the student had completed his/her degree in the US.
In regards to the student body... over 90 nationalities represented and, like any campus, a range of motivation for and dedication to the studies. Graduate students tend to come to Geneva specifically for a graduate program or are working in the Geneva region for multinational corporations or INGOs.

Which is to say, it is not accredited in Switzerland.

I know because I came here for grad school and had to jump through the appropriate hoops to get my (accredited) US degrees recognized as the equivalent of proper Swiss ones. They're standard hoops and every university has an administrative assistant somewhere who can advise you how to jump through them - but they do exist, just like they do for a Swiss student pursuing further education in the US.

Accreditation anywhere is [only] as important as your next boss thinks it is.
