Just take it to work and throw it in the bin there. Works for me.

Just to be sure: You do believe that the OP is seriously wondering what to do with a broken stoneware saucer? It is not toxic, not bulky, not inflammable and all in all very small.

Is it only me who would throw it in the bin without asking the forum which vignette to buy and discuss it for a day?

P.S: I do come from a country where recycling is nearly as valued as here and so do I value it... I do take care of everything that could be fed into a process to save valuable resources. But this discussion is simply... garbage.

Are you serious in asking this question?
You've lived in Basel for over 2 years and you don't know how to dispose of broken household items??

Re: How do I throw away a smashed saucer?

You really shouldn't throw it away at all. You should keep it to make a mosaic mirror for your apartment. You can go to the recycling place & get more plate & some mirror & wood plank... for free.

How about making one like this?

Have you asked your local Greek restaurant what they do?

Smash it up and put it at the bottom of plant pots - helps to provide drainage.

Cheers, Nick

I haven't broken anything like this before in the two years I have been here. I haven't hosted any Greek food evenings, in case you were wondering.

I have a smashed saucer in zurich. Can someone tell me how the procedure for disposal differs from canton to canton?

That's rather a good idea. Thanks!

Does anyone know a tool shop in Basel where they sell good hammers?

That's right! I have the same problem with old suitcases. I asked a Swiss once, how to get rid of it and she said, use it to travel abroad. Then dump it and buy a new one there! I'm not lying! :-)

You can dump them in the right container in Germany. This I know. I once transported a weighty load from England over to Germany. I couldn't work out what was going on when the suitcase with its corner wheels was resistant to pull but I thought I was just getting tired. But when I got to Munich it was starting to "dig in". When I pulled it would pull back and rock from side to side in a waddle like some fat grey King Penguin. After a while it would pull back with force like if you tried to pull a playful Stafforshire Terrier towards you by the stick in its mouth, its little wheels now folded in like the short folded legs of a dog and the fortuity of its plastic make-up now working against me by almost gluing themselves to the ground. I had no choice but to turn it on its side to make any progress at all. I could have tried to call a cab but I didn't want another disappointment so late at night so I dragged it for over a mile along the streets of Munich on its side, wondering whether at that late time the locals would call the police because of the noise. By the time I arrived at my apartment the side of the case was nearly worn through. I chucked it the next day.
