I believe the traditional way is over arm with a small but complicated wrist flick.

saucer as in a small plate? if so what is it made of?

Take it to the recycling area and give it to them....or put it in the bin, they won't fine you for it if it's only small honest......LOL

Re: How do I throw away a smashed saucer?

Why dispose of it? Whilst your at the tool shop in Basel looking for your special tools, pick up some superglue and have a super fun weekend putting it back together again

There is a dumping container/box for plates at the Zug recycling center. Try your local one.

Just be sure to wipe it clean with bleach to remove all finger prints and/or any DNA which could be traced back to you..

It's made of stoneware. It is a saucer in the sense of "cup and saucer".

Wrap it in a bit of newspaper and chuck it in the bin. A one-off bit of cracked crockery in the rubbish system is not going to land you in trouble, nor do I think Basel, nor any other part of the Western world has a policy specially dedicated to smashed saucers.

That would be unwise. Doing so would change the nature of the saucer to a flying one, and at that point an unknown number of secret government agencies would become involved.

Newspaper should go in the separate paper collection. What you are suggesting borders on the criminal.

how about wrapping it in some banana skins then? Or failing that I would try flushing it down the loo after 10pm.

Not sure if you are trolling or not, but did you even look at the Basel web page. Even with my limited german it took me less that a minute to find the answer:

http://www.stadtreinigung-bs.ch/saub...l=37&detail=70

with a full list of how to dispose of various items here:

The fact that this discussion takes place at all, tells the casual browser all they need to know about pressing concerns and attitudes in Switzerland.

Unfortunately my broken stoneware saucer is not flammable. Neither is it bulky.

Re: How do I throw away a smashed saucer?

Keep smashing it up, eventually it will be so small it will blow away in the wind, like a rubbish religion or bad dandruff.

Thanks. Any idea where I get one of these vignettes from and where I am supposed to leave the broken saucer?

It's on days like this I wish I lived in Yorkshire.

Re: How do I throw away a smashed saucer?

Don't throw it away, make it work for you. Depending on the severity of the 'smash' you could offer it for sale on the boards on this very forum. If you have less than 12 pieces buy a tube of glue and advertise it as an edgy children's game of skill and patience. More than 12 pieces could become hardcore for a wendy house. Those are my best ideas, I'm sure you could come up with some yourself.

The sticker can be got from the same places as you purchase bebbi sack - Coop, kiosks, IWB shop etc and you leave it as stated in the link I posted, on the street the night before your normal collection day :

  • Bereitstellung frühestens am Vorabend des Abfuhrtages ab 19.00 Uhr gut sichtbar am Strassenrand.
  • Mit genügend Vignetten versehen.
