| | | Electric blanket?
Hi - any ideas on if they sell electric blankets for beds in Switzerland? If not, apart from the trusty hot water bottle, any other suggestion? It's for my mother who lives with me - she gets a backache if she doesn't use one in her bed. Thanks a mill |

I've had those in Portugal, but completely forgotten about it. I will check the places out where they sell duvets !!!

Hi, I have a heatpad (the size of a pillow) for when I get backaches, and its fab. Its very thin and you can adjust the temperature. I bought it from Manor a few years ago. The brand is called Solis. I'm sure you can buy electric blankets as well from any of the big department shops. Have you tried looking in Manor, Coop City, Migros, Ikea etc?

Hi- thanks for your responses- love the idea of the heating pad. I did try Manor and a few other places ( I live in Basel), but was stumped as I tried to explain this requirement in my broken German (after I could not see any). You've given me some hope - perhaps I just need to keep looking!!!!

I got mine last year in Migros.
What I didn't know is that most of these blankets are actually not blankets, but matress covers. It's called a Decke/Blanket, but the instructions say you're supposed to lay on it.
I made sure mine had an automatic shut off (though I think it's only after a few hours) because I had a heating pad once which didn't have this and actually fried. Not causing me any injury, but still giving me some food for thought.
I remember asking in a Coop City for one at the time, the lady had no clue what I was talking about (I speak german) and then I found it near the blowdryers, electric razors etc. Migros had it cheaper though, try an m-electronic. I think this is the one I have: http://www.melectronics.ch/g3.cms/s_.../s_level/11430 | | This user would like to thank Destiny for this useful post: | |

Got confused looks in three different shops in Lausanne yesterday :-(
Found some examples that are available to buy online at the La Redoute website (French or German only on the Swiss site, but you could read the product descriptions in English on their UK site).
There's this heated mattress cover and two "couvertures chauffantes" however they don't seem to be available to order at the moment.
The problem I'm still facing is that we have a large double bed, so the 140x150cm mattress cover is going to leave lots of chilly bits!! If anyone has found a bigger size anywhere, I'd been very interested!

I went to the MMM Migros to the top floor where they sell TVs and coffee machines. I had written out the phrase provided in an earlier post with the exact words (in German) and handed it to the helpful man behind the counter. They only offer one kind in a small size and it is 119 CHF.
I told him that it was more money than I was willing to pay but thanked him for his help. I'm still suffering from sticker shock.

A little off the subject, only because the weather is getting colder and I assume others are in search of warm suggestions - another option to an electric blanket is something from the US called a slanket. It's an oversized blanket with sleeves and looks to be uber comfortable, especially when just playing on the computer (something I know many on the forum are guilty of! )
Here is the webite: http://www.theslanket.com/
and a review: http://www.gadgetmadness.com/archive...c_blanket_.php
I know many will laugh, but what can I say? I'm a big baby when it comes to being warm and comfy in the winter!

Hi,
I'm looking to buy online, or from a high street shop in either Switzerland or France, an electric over-blanket. I have found a few models, but they all switch off automatically after 3 hours. I am looking for one which will stay on for the whole night. Can anyone help?

The mattress covers I bought at Migros MParc do not automatically shut off. I use 2 twin size on my European Queen bed. Then layer a feather duvet and a mattress pad under the sheet. They have 3 heat settings and packaway nicely in the Spring.
