Mosquitos

Hi All.

Might seem like a dumb question, but do you get mosquitos in CH? Where I'm from they are very frequent and unwelcome visitors, so I would like to be prepared...

Re: Mosquitos

Hi Twinkletoes
Welcome to the forum. Yes I'm afraid to say there are mosquitos over here and from personal experience they're vicious little sh*tes. But the supermarkets do plug in bug repelents that are great and help to stop you being eaten alive at night

Re: Mosquitos

Oh No! And here I thought that they would hate the cold! I guess they survived the dinosaurs why wouldn't they be everywhere? Thanks for the feedback, now I know to stock up on Tabbard & Peaceful Sleep.

Re: Mosquitos

I've been told its starting to get too cold for them and they're dying off now. But my arms and legs are disproving that theory.

I agree. One night I left our bedroom window open and woke up with some nasty bites.

They'll be gone soon.

Re: Mosquitos

IKEA sell the standard mosquito Net every year, which has saved my sensitive skin from these blighters every year. It costs near to nothing and comes out of the closet end of every summer. Super!

During the heat I sleep with the window open but always keep the fan on - the noise of the fan and the circulation of air stops them coming in.

Re: Mosquitos

This seems to be the time of the year when they're coming into the bedroom during late afternoons - I keep trying to remember to close the curtains and stop them. I've also become quite adept at swiping the little b4rstards too, down side of that is that I probably need to repaint the walls whie again

Re: Mosquitos

the mozzies here defy all reason!!! at the moment our max temp is about 15 and i still find them in the cellar and evidence of them on our bodies!!! in SA the mozzies were real wimps, they die out when autumn starts - bring DOOM and lots of it...
no, but ceriously, we have a plugin for each bedroom and the living room - which works well. the more irritating insects are flies! they get up after you've hit them, and they fly so slow that you feel the satisfaction of nailing the bugger and then it gets up and flys away again!
at least the parktown prawns seem to be non existent - but the spiders are way weird - when i start weeding in the pots infront of our apartment, the earth seem to move as they scatter - bug deluxe!
happy planning...

Reading the posts it feels like I’m living somewhere else; I’ve been in Zurich for two years and I’ve never had an unpleasant confrontation with mosquitoes. We moved here from Milan where I used to suffer their constant presence and viciousness.

Re: Mosquitos

I had my first Swiss summer this year and the mosquitoes feasted on me all summer long, despite my plug-ins and DEET repellent. My arms, legs, face and fingers (yes, even my little finger!) still bare the scars...

I thought they would surely be gone by October but they still seem to be hanging around and I kill at least two a day. For some strange reason though the last stragglers seem to be very lazy and I haven't had a bite all month. Hope I haven't jinxed it now...

Re: Mosquitos

We live on the water and didn't have any problems with mosquitos. Only the odd one here or there all summer. At first we were surprised that we didn't see insect screens on the windows but it turns out, they are really needed - where we are, in any case.

Re: Mosquitos

We had mossies in France so brought a heap of stuff with us as we'ed heard about the buggers here. Waste of time.... the Swiss mossies are hardy b*****ds, the French stuff I think they used for deoderant. Bought some Swiss stuff, which is actually cheaper than the French stuff and it worked a treat.

The mossies are annoying, but the cleggs are way worse and I haven't found a deterent for those.

Re: Mosquitos

Try Anti Brumm spray it all over your body before going to bed, and this should stop the nasty Mosquitos from biting, including other insects. This year was terrible, but now they seem to be dying off now.

Re: Mosquitos

Glad it's not just me, I have been plagued by mozzies this year particularly. The plug-in mozz exterminator worked for my studio apt but killed any other insects and moths too, so have been constantly clearing a fine layer of dead winged-things from the furniture.

Stops me biting to....yukk maybe that's why Mama G bought it

We found the Swissy plug in thingy's very good, put in 10 minutes before bed time and a quick spray and close, the door worked a treat, we even managed to keep the windows open.

But the cleggs....

I tried to persuade, Mama Goose not to kill all the spiders and let them do a bit of Au natural wingy thingy culling....no chance.....so it's modern chemistry and dusting for PG too
