Jelmoli online shop?

Hi guys,

Has anyone here purchased any furniture from the Jelmoli online shop. Today I was looking at some furniture online and encouraged by the presence of lots of things at a very reasonable price, I traipsed into the shop on Banhofstr.

Here, I was told that none of the Jelmoli branded furnishings were sold in Jelmoli shops, but instead had to be purchased online. I'm very reluctant to buy things like chairs without knowing whether they're comfortable or not.

Has anyone purchased through the online store before? Does anyone know if there's a top secret warehouse where you can actually see this furniture pre-purchase? If you have purchased before, can you tell me if you're happy with the quality of your items?

Or should I give up and tread the familiar path to Ikea, Conforama, etc?

Re: Jelmoli online shop?

I have not bought furniture from Jelmoli online YET, but my best friend bought chairs online from them...and it was stunning. I, myself have bought online from Otto's, bought a few things from their online furnitures, and must say...pleasantly surprised. I can actually recommend the Otto's online experience, it was a good value buy, and the quality was AS good as any other shop eg Interio etc.
Read on their brochure/website and see what their policy is on goods that you do not want eg if it is not what you EXACTLY thought it would be like.

Re: Jelmoli online shop?

One place I can recommend is at the Interio site, they actually have a used furniture section, where private parties can sell their 'pre-owned' furniture. The site is called mobel bourse and is in German and French. The German part usually has more variety. We found some very nice things there (it is not just Interio). Check it at:

Good luck!

Re: Jelmoli online shop?

Jelmoli department store and Jelmoli mail order are two separately run companies.

I have ordered mattresses and bed frames from them - a few years back. Reliable service. Cheap delivery up to the front door (even if you live on the 4th floor without a lift). Quality was fine (they were brand products, so no surprises there) and prices very reasonable. I would certainly choose them over IKEA for the delivery service alone.

I occasionally order clothing and other things from them. So can recommend the Jelmoli mail order.

AFAIK there is no warehouse that you can go and visit. That's a disadvantage if you're looking for something in a particular colour or if you want to test-sleep/sit. But still, give them a call: customer service should know more than I do

Another online shop for furniture with free delivery and good service is www.bader.ch - however, it's a little more on the "traditional" design side.

Re: Jelmoli online shop?

I thought I would write my recent experience with Jelmoli online shop. We ordered a sofa in october for over 3,000CHF. We have waited & waited & were told that it would arrive 5-8 weeks after ordering, 3 months & 2 weeks later we are still waiting.

We have paid a first instalment for the sofa (half of full amount as is their policy) & have called numerous times recently. During this time we have only received one call back with no apology, I know the sofa is coming from Germany but a Jelmoli manager told me that they are waiting for an email reply. They have a policy of not phoning the supplier & cannot give me any update until the supplier mails them.

I told them we had promised our old sofa to someone & didn't want them to wait forever so we have to sit on bean bags until our new one arrives, whenever that may be.

What I find amazing is that they cannot update us & that means we have no idea & we don't know whether we should get another one temporarily from IKEA as guests or the in-laws (actually anyone) only have the option of sitting around the kitchen table. Not good when my mother-in-law is looking for the children for the whole day.

What annoys me is that they don't really sound like they are bothered, I don't have a problem that they have been paid & we will get our sofa eventually, it's just the lack of information. The way they talk when we call is that they make it sound like Germany is China & they have no control whatsoever over how long the manufacturer takes.

Maybe we are unlucky but I would not buy any furniture from them again.

Sorry about that. You must be super frustrated.

Have you told them you want to cancel the order and get your money back? That sometimes gets them moving faster.

I would also like to share an experience that I had with Jelmoli online shop. We ordered a wohnwand, complete set, with lighting. It also took about 2 months for them to have it. The delivery men arrived later than the window we were given. (by 2 hours) Even though we were told that the assembly includes mounting furniture on the wall, they refused to do it. They also did a poor job assembling the low board. They then left without leaving the assembly instructions so even if we wanted to mount furniture on the wall ourselves, it would be difficult. (not to mention ever wanting to disassemble and reassemble)

As for the furniture, it was not very nice at all, of course looked much better in their catalog and we saw a very similar even better item in Germany for less than half the price.

So we complained, they were accommodating, they gave us the option of sending someone to return the furniture for a full refund. Again some people came , picked it up. Then they gave me a paper to sign that it was picked up and went back to their truck to fill out some paperwork. Since I was in a rush to go to work I asked them to leave a copy in my mailbox---never happened. So 2 weeks later i received a call from Jelmoli that I need to send in a small light that they had forgotten to pick up. Then they would credit my 1000 CHF deposit. I sent it (at own expense) and waited. I called them several times, each time i get some kind of excuse. first they said they sent it to me and i need to wait 2 days for the money to post to my account...umm ok....then when i didnt get it and called, they said: we don't have your bank account and to send the bank details (outright lie)....I gave it to them and it has been 4 days and still no refund

So stay away from this company, my best advice

Thanks MiniMia, we didn't threaten to cancel but I am quite good at getting my way, if any here has similar problems I will enthusiastically forward you direct office numbers & supervisor names (there are about 5), that really did the trick, every one of them knows me. Finally we were told that it is to be delivered on Tuesday (not last monday as it turns out!), nearly 4 months later (& about 2 and half months late if it actually is here).
