Swiss Farmers Shirt by Mail Order?

My wife would like one of those blue farmers shirts but we've only found them at a silly price (CHF98 ) in a tourist trap in the Lauterbrunnen Valley, which we visit quite often.. (and again in early March). Does anyone know where we can get them mail order? I understand they are made in several locations (Ballenburg Museum at Brienz for one) but contacting a maker is proving difficult. Many thanks.

Re: Swiss Farmers Shirt by Mail Order?

98 francs for a shirt is cheap. Support the farmers! Down with cowbells!

Re: Swiss Farmers Shirt by Mail Order?

I don't really think the souvenir shop at Kleine Scheidegg is the cheapest place to buy a couple of shirts.. Especially as they ripped me off last year for salopettes.. Perhaps the backstreets of Interlaken may give a little better value..?

Re: Swiss Farmers Shirt by Mail Order?

You must all have expensive tastes!! That's UKP40.. I was stung for £120 for a pair of 'Cross' salopettes in the same shop, came back to the UK and found the same make and type for £35 in TKMax. I was not a happy bunny...

Re: Swiss Farmers Shirt by Mail Order?

I wonder why they are for export only? I'd like to get one for our daughter, she would look right at home with that blondy family. 98 chf for a shirt is reasonable I think, they are good quality and attractive.

Re: Swiss Farmers Shirt by Mail Order?

Haven't we got any 'desperate to get a job but cannot find one as I can't speak German' dressmakers or tailors on the Forum? Those shirts cannot be all that difficult to make and I bet you can buy similar material by the metre. There must also be a couple of out-of-work office professionals around here who would be glad of a job too. They could do the ordering and billing side of the enterprise. We wouldn't have to pay anyone much as we could do it illegally without AHV or SUVA payments, no paid holidays... In short, we could have our own private "EF farmer's-shirts-made-to-measure" sweat shop.
Just to check if we would have enough customers to make it worth starting up the firm, please send your orders giving size required and SFR.50.- per shirt in cash to the following address: LONGBYT, EF Dressmaking Department, Swiss. (sic!)

Re: Swiss Farmers Shirt by Mail Order?

And what did I see in Wädenswil yesterday? Edelweiss shirts 20% off. They didn’t say what they were priced at to begin with, but if anyone is interested, the phone number is on the site.
Di alt Fabrik. Lockstoff. How to get there.

Re: Swiss Farmers Shirt by Mail Order?

Hey Longbyte, great idea - you get the cloth and I'll get the dinkydi sweat shop happening in Dubai and ship them back to you for distribution! We get Tshirts embroided here for around CHF8, and there are tailors here who make to order for around 20CHF a shirt!, TNT courier is about 35CHF to CH

Re: Swiss Farmers Shirt by Mail Order?

Unfortunately, now that I can get them a bit cheaper here, and because no-one has yet sent me the Fr.50.00 as a down payment anyway, I've dropped the idea. Bad luck. We could really have done a deal on it. We'll just have to keep our eyes open for other ways of making money out of the members of the Forum.
