need advice on moving to France

I will move to the west coast of France at the end of February. Unfortunately I have acquired sufficient stuff here that I don't believe that it will all fit in the nice large station wagon that I have also acquired.

What's the best way to get (some of) my personal stuff to my new home? Should I ship it from here, or am I better off driving across the border and
shipping it "internally" in France? Will my boxes be opened if I ship them from Switzerland? Is the post the best way to do this, or should I use DHL/UPS/some shipping company?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

We came from near Cognac and used a company called Atlantic Corporate Relocation and they were pretty good. www.atlantic-relocation.com. Dependant and exactly how much stuff you are moving, have you considered a buying a trailer, then after your move is complete, selling it in France?

Re: need advice on moving to France

If shipping to France is anything like shipping to Germany it definitely makes sense to cross the border and do a national shipment rather than international.

Re: need advice on moving to France

Hi I know this thread is approx. 2 years old but I was wondering how you got on with the move?. I am keen to know if you move furniture from Swiss to France in a van what are the implications at the border i.e. for a couch or something. Do you pay tax on second hand items or is it the same?. I tried looking at the border site but got totally lost. Thanks for your help if you can.
