Cash through the Post

Hi Guys

I'm making a payment today/tomorrow for a concert ticket. The seller is in Bern and is sending me the ticket first which is nice. They have asked for me just to send the price of the ticket by regular A-post. i'd prefer not to send cash via post so is there some kind of postal cheque you can get in the post office that won't cost the receiver anything to cash? I just want it safe and guaranteed for them.
(they don't want to go via ebanking).

Thanks for your tips

Cheers

Brian

Not sure if that is what they want, but there is "Postmandat". You pay the amount & fees (maybe CHF 10.- to 20 .-, depending on the amount) and the receiver gets the cash from the mailman... Probably ask at your local Post...

Hi Herc82

What would you suggest they were looking for me to do? here was the line from the e-mail....."Schmeiss doch die Fr. 60.-- ins Couvert und schick es mir".

Cheers

Re: Cash through the Post

I'd say there wouldn't be any problems with sending Fr. 60 through the regular (A-Post) mail. If you want to be on the safe side, send it via registered mail, costs Fr. 5.00 and you know they'll get it.

Re: Cash through the Post

When I order/buy foreign currency at the UBS (eg for holiday), UBS also sends it by regular post (in an enveloppe without any indications that it's from UBS). So apparantly UBS trusts that that is a safe way to send money in Switzerland. Never had any problem with it. Last time I ordered 800 USD and was surprised to see it delivered the following day already in a plain enveloppe!

Re: Cash through the Post

If they're willing to go to the post office twice and you have an address where somebody is around during the delivery hours, they could send it cash on delivery without involvement of any bank account for 15 Fr.

If they have a post account you can fill out a pay slip at the post office and pay there in cash, this costs them 1.80 Fr. or a few centimes more depending on the payment.

My family send me cash from the UK for birthdays, and christmas, they wrap cling film round it then sellotape it in a card, always received the money
