Could any one let me know how can I throw a broken old sofa. The broken hous chare 1 CHF per KG which I find too high. Can I break into pieces and throw alongwith other garbage. any other ideas.

If it's something like an IKEA sofa, i think you could slowly start breaking it down into pieces, grinding into sawdust and shredded fiber and

A) throw it out handful by handful with the rest of the garbage
B) cut a hole in your pocket and dispose of your now granular sofa 'a la Shawshank Redemption' (fill your pockets with sofa, go for a walk and let the pieces of sofa fall through the holes in your pockets)
C) Post pieces of sofa to any freepost spam you get in your postbox
D) Use it as kindling while it's still chilly, you will need a fireplace for this (The alternative to this is to have regular BBQs and add sofa as fuel.)
E) I hear sofa soup tastes pretty good.

If you break it into pieces it will end up costing you much more since you have to pay for that garbage anyway. I see that you have two options, depending on where you live:

1. Take it to your recycling center. You will have to pay by weight, but probably a little cheaper than you were quoted.
2. If you use stickers for the rubbish you may be able to place the appropriate number of stickers on it and put it out for collection. Instructions can be found usually on the sheet of stickers itself, or with the instructions on garbage collection provided by your local community (either in the form of a yearly calendar sent to you or on their website).

In any case if in doubt as at your local community office for the best way to do it in your area.
