Need to hire a sewing machine..

Does anyone know if one can hire a sewing machine for a day? I am in urgent need of one... and mines sitting in London

Also, has anyone seen this pastic coated tension wire, used for hanging light weight curtains. You can screw in hooks at each end. They are widely available in England, but I couldn't find any here. I have seen the metal coated one in Ikea, but I can't start drilling holes here, so its out of question.

Re: Need to hire a sewing machine..

Sorry, don't know about renting a sewing machine. But if you're in rented accommodation, you can drill away as long as you cover your drill holes before you leave. I always found toothpaste was a very cost-efficient and effective way of covering the holes

Re: Need to hire a sewing machine..

Do you have tracks for curtains - I have a bag full of 'fixings' here to put up tab-top curtains if that is what you have - I also have the little things that you put onto the curtains to run along the tracks...

Oh, yes, and I have a sewing machine...and an overlocker PM me if you want to make arrangements....

OMG thanks .. I have the funniest tracking system ever, I can never find the right fixings for it. However I won't be going through the hassle of making tabs for these curtains, just a slot system where a wire can pass through as they aren't heavy curtains.

I will Pm you! you are such a life saver

Re: Need to hire a sewing machine..

i don't know where you could hire one, but i have (a very basic) one in Zurich that you could borrow. Also i think maybe Dynamo (http://www.dynamo.ch/) have sewing facilities.

You can use pressure mounted white/silver rods. I've seen these in Manor. I think I have some of the plastic coated wire and screws from the UK at home. Will look tonight and let you know.

As filler is available in big toothpaste-like tubes, your suggestion is silly and irresponsible.
