OK looking for a house or appartment with a garden and with a budget of up to 2'500 could stretch to nearer 3'000 if really pushed and we wanted to live off bread and water.

Not super interested in living in the centre of town, but an S-bahn / tram is needed.
Nothing un-usual I guess, but I just can't seem to find very much on offer.
Also we only have 6 weeks to find something that fits the bill.

So are we being realistic? any good suggestions on areas to look in (read some of the other threads on nice areas to live) and also where do you look for accomodation, using homegate, immostreet and comparis.ch but their search criteria are rubbish, ie search on all houses with a garden would be a nice option - Anything better I've missed?

Went to our first house viewing last night, us and 30 other people..it was an open day. I'm guessing this is going to be the norm, and finding a place to stay is a fight between us and the other 30 people being shown around?

I presume you are looking for this "house with garden" in switzerland?

From your post I assume Zurich ? but maybe be more specific, to help you get what you are looking for.

Your budget is low.

Homegate is available in English - though the final descriptions are 99% in German. You need to know the area or town you want or monthly rental to search. Houses to rent are so rare that Homegate lumps them in with flats to rent.

A house with garden and roses round the door is not the Swiss dream - it's just different and you may want to do in Rome, and stick with a flat. Anyway you'll need to be away from teh city of Zurich.

Ahh yeah sorry should have said, its in Zurich.

Its not really a house with roses I want, its really a place the dog can wander out to when he needs a wee.
Unfortunately that means for us the garden is non-optional.

OK so it sounds like a house may be a dream, I will look for flats with gardens.

Or flats on roofs, we have a large roof flat and the outdoor space is larger than the indoor space, we chose it because we had a dog.

Try plugging in zurich / einfamileinhaus, within 10k maximum rent 2,800 ... just found you a nice little property with a garden :
