I take it you have never been to the Australian countryside then?
Swiss flies are quite tame in comparison... I literally went mental after a few days there.... still a good idea though.

Don't forget your stubbyholders for the (few) hot days in Switzerland...

Go on....
*laughs* Thats a great look! Not sure if it'll catch on in Lausanne though...

I don't think my fiance is going to let me throw out his stubby holder collection though!

Vegemite and Tim Tams :-) They have Cenovis and boring old swiss chocolate here but nothing like the real deal!

The most important thing to bring - not vegemite or wine or any materials things all of which can be found here albeit at a price. No the most important thing for the first few months is do not forget to bring your sense of humour. I don't mean that flippantly. It will help you enormously if you can laugh at some of the frustrations that initially adjusting to life in CH (as with any foreign country) can bring. This forum may well help you with that

Did anyone say Tim-tams?
Yes, bring lots of those (more in your fav flavours; others to give away ).
And, no, it's not like bringing coal to Newcastle.

DEFFS TIM TAMS!!! *Drool*
Tim Tam chiller from Gloria Jeans. sigh.
Arnotts biscuits are pretty good...and as much as I LOVE Swiss chocolate...why not have Cadbury as well?

Re: What would you bring to Switzerland from Oz?

I'd LOVE a steamed dimsim. I'd settle for a chicko roll, but I'd rather a crab stick.
Now I'm hungry....

We've a place to live an are now just waiting for visas

I've just returned home and now feel a little overwhelmed at the move.

I'm looking at our books piled around the house and am wondering if I should do a serious cull or bring them all?

And I'm wondering just how much Australian wine I should bring?

Of all the things you took to Switzerland from Australia/ your home country, what would you take? What would you leave behind? What do you miss most?

Bring plenty of sunshine! Especially handy between November and April

Re: What would you bring to Switzerland from Oz?

If you are big fan of great Shiraz you should bring some; especially those from smaller boutique vineyard - tough to find here. Good Swiss wine tends to be on the light side. Merino pullovers is WAY cheaper in Oz.

Food:
1 years supple of jelly packets, custard powder, vegemite and if you're a tea drinker your fav. tea. Its sounds pathetic but that's what i request eveytime someone comes along.

Clothes if you are from Melbourne be sure to visit the "Mills" shop oop to Collignwood hall for great 100% wool UGG boots, thermal underwear.and...visit the Bole factory Outlet on Wellington Parade and they have unbelievable prices on "Cross" ski wear...you can't get these prices anywhere around here....and pack crates and crates of English books..( Dirt Cheap Warehouse 2-5$ a book..Johston St Collingwood!!!)

Good Luck!

Well, I'd make a selection of the books and probably leave the wine, here you can find good Italian/French/Spanish/Swiss wine at reasonable price. And yes, you can also find good Australian wine, even though I'd not recommend buyign products coming from so far away.

I'd bring some vegemite though .

Re: What would you bring to Switzerland from Oz?

I'm just back from a quick trip to Australia and the essentials I had to pick up were:
  • vegemite
  • cherry ripes
  • white knights
  • skipping girl vinegar (it's not called skipping girl vinegar any more but it still has the picture and it's not really that much better than the local vinegar but it has a proper top for pouring onto chips)
  • caramello koalas
  • turkish delights
  • tim tams
