| | | Laser eye surgery in Switzerland
I thought about having laser surgery back in the UK.
What about in Switzerland:
-Anyone had it done here?
-Costs?
-Where to start?
And I've searched and seen Lob's info on having it done in Istanbul but I thinking more of a train ride away...
Cheers

my wife had it done - six month+ report - she's very happy.
Have you asked if it's covered on your health insurance?

I assumed my health insurance won't cover "cosmetic" stuff - I'll check though. ta.

I visited: http://www.vistaklinik.ch/ in Basel 3 years ago. The first step is a check of your eyes if they can be lasered. In my case they told me, I have a high risk of being very light sensitive afterwards. So I decided not to do it.
The costs are around CHF 4000.

Hi,
I am thinking about having my eyes corrected too, and would be grateful for any experiences, particularly for good or bad experiences at specific clinics in Switzerland in general and Geneva in particular. I would prefer to get it done in Geneva/Vaud, but for something this important would be willing to travel if it was worthwhile to go a top place.
So far I have found this clinic in Geneva: Vision Laser
Any one with any experience of them?
Cheers!

My husband had it done a few years ago, and is very happy our insurance did not cover it, but my husbands mum had it done at the same time, and her insurance paid half (they had different insurances).
A tip for you if you have it done change your driving lisense because my husband didn`t and got stopped by the police a few months ago, and when they looked at his licence they asked if he had contacts in, or where was his glasses, when he explained he had had his eyes lasered they fined him for not changing his licence

Something I have been considering too. So interested to hear from other people who have had it done here.
Saw an advert on Sky the other day where it costs from 345UKP per eye.

I started looking into getting it done a few months ago. I went to a place called Laser Vista in Pfaffikon SZ ( http://www.laservista.ch/en/locations/pfaeffikonsz/). They give you a 10 minute free consultation and basically tell you then and there if you're eligable for it.

Thanks everyone for the replies so far.
The place I found (linked in above post) was saying CHF2,500 per eye, although to be honest I'm less interested in the cost and more interested in finding the best person to do it...! When they are playing around with big lasers and my eyes, I want the best person to be doing it
I've been thinking about it off and on for a long time, but the risk of something going wrong has always worried me. Obviously the more experience they have, the fewer problems there are likely to be, and I think now may be the time to bite the bullet.
I'd still be interested to hear feedback on specific clinics, whether in Geneva or elsewhere in Switzerland.
Cheers,
GenevaSculler

GenevaSculler | | | | | Yes my husband paid 2.500frcs per eye, he had it done in Bern, and you have to go back for a check up a week later, so i would not travel to far away from home, another thing i would check with your insurance if they would pay anything towards having it done |

One of the surgeries I looked at (before I bottled it) included a sight test and nice explanatory letter for the STVA. The rest is up to you of course.

I do not know anything about this in Switzerland, but my wife done it in Hungary 9 years ago and some experiances:
- the surgery itself is not painful, she got something in her eyes so she did not feel anything. the only funny thing is when you hear that the laser is burning your retina
- she was even quite happy with smiles after it for lets say 10 minutes. than the effect of that drug went out, and really big pain came in.
- she had to be in very dark room for 4-5 days. the healing period could be very painful or not painful at all. it depends on your bodys ability of reproducing the retina. if it is fast, its a big pain, but the healing period is shorter. my wifes reproducing was pretty fast so she was in very big pain. she told me if she knew this is this painful she never would have done it.
-after all she is very fine, no problems at all with her eyes

Where in Bern did your husband have his laser surgery done? Did the surgeon speak any english?
I looked in to having mine done in the UK with Optical Express, but they needed you to go back after 1 week, 3 months, and 6 months. In the end I thought it was just too much hassle, and by the time you add on flights, transport from the airport etc etc, I probably wouldnt be saving that much anyway.
