Where can I buy letter size printer paper in Basel? It's the American size, 8½ by 11 inches (215.9 mm × 279.4 mm). Shorter and wider than A4. Already been to Office World in Basel, they had none.

I very much doubt you'll be able to buy it here. I'm originally from the UK and have never seen it for sale in shops there either -- UK being more likely to sell such stuff.

I guess your best bet is to order it on the Internet and have it delivered. Alternative is to go to a small independent paper producer here and have it custom cut (which I doubt is worth anyone's while).

I used to bring paper back from the States for those rare occasions when I needed to print some thing in US letter size. I've since weaned myself of the need.

I have a pack or two in the basement, it's 3-hole punched. I have no use for it.

What's wrong with A4 ?

hmmmmm not as pretty... I just prefer letter-size for taking notes especially...and it takes some times to get used to A4 again...

I think because all the paper storage (files, envelopes, etc) are designed for A4, you will have trouble finding the US sizes here. Maybe you will have to order some online from the US but, like Swisspea, I have problems fathoming out why you need the shorter paper and what you need to go through to "get used to it" I write the same way whether it is on the back of a fag packet or on an offcut of wallpaper.

You could also try the brockis - there is definitely a range of paper at 'brocki-land' in the last Aisle in the back corner of the upper floor - you might be lucky...

What about Amazon UK or Germany?

I'm not sure about these days, but printing tax forms for submission to the IRS used to require 8.5 x 11 paper. I used to keep a small stash just for this purpose.

Otherwise, I agree with the others on here. Get used to A4!

Letter-size is better for Writing Pads.

I needed some US legal sized paper recently. I justed used some B sized paper and a rotary paper cutter to cut it down to size. If you don't need much, that might be a way to go (if you know someone with a paper cutter or if your company has one)

If nothing else helps, every bigger stationery store will gladly cut paper to just about any size you might like, and that will not even cost a fortune. I have to have A4 paper cut to size once in a while. Last time it cost me about 50 centimes for 500 sheets. Looks sort of affordable to me.
