Just a little reminder for all those Aussies and Kiwis out there that ANZAC Day is coming up. For those who don't know, ANZAC (Australian and New Zealand Army Corps) day is a special day where we remember those who have served in the Armed Forces.
There is an official ceremony at the Commonwealth War Graves in Vevey at 11 am. Everybody else is welcome.

Anzac Day Service
Date: Wednesday, 25 April 2007 Time: 11.00 am
Venue: Commonwealth War Graves Cemetery, in Vevey near Montreux
Details: Ceremony will be followed by drinks. All are welcome.

Saint Martin's Cemetery in Vevey
If you are traveling by car on the autoroute (direction Montreux) exit at the 'sortie Vevey', direction Vevey. Take the Route d'Hauteville / roundabout / left in to Route de St-Legler and follow this road to the end. Turn right in to Avenue de Blonay, right in to Boulevard St-Martin and the Cimetière St-Martin is at the end of the street. Parking is limited.

If you are traveling by train, you exit the Vevy railway station at the back, up the stairs and follow the signs to the Cimetière St-Martin. The Commonwealth War Graves are in this cemetery.

Just an update for ANZAC Day 2010. The ceremony will still be at the Commonwealth War Graves Cemetery in Vevey on Sunday the 25th April - but it will be at a new time of 2pm.

There will be no formal BBQ in Lausanne, however the Kiwi club of Switzerland is organizing a ANZAC Day BBQ on the banks of Lake Zurich at 12pm. (www.nzclub.ch ). If you are a Kiwi in the Zurich region, I believe they are still looking for some extra volunteers to help out.

Logistically it will be very difficult to attend both activities , so a few of us will be keen to have an informal BBQ in Vidy in the late afternoon. This is of course open to all nationalities - just as long as you can kick a footy :-).

Any further info on the bbq in Vidy? Obviously byo food and beer, are there outdoor grills there?

Any further info on bbq/beers on Sunday afternoon in Lausanne area? Not going to make it up to Zurich but would be up for something local.

Lets meet up at the Service and go from there - the service is a lot later than I had originally planned and there are not so many people interested it seems. Lets see how the weather is and how late we leave the Service after the drinks :-) then decide - and if I am still mobile after running the 20km of Lausanne on Sat.
We could head to the White Horse or MGM for a burger, or the BBQ option. There are supermarkets in Ouchy open on Sundays and I have a BBQ at the ready.

I'm keen to make it to Vevey on Sunday....
Anyone else heading there from Fribourg way??? You know us kiwis, hate turning up to places on our lonesome! But I am a wee bit excited about finally seeing some other kiwis for once

Have to say that it was a lovely service and a fantastic way to meet fellow kiwis and aussies. I was quite surprised by the large turnout!! And a HUGE thank you to whoever provided the homemade ANZAC biscuits!!! Mmmm

I certainly agree, lovely ceremony, great people and so nice to have ANZAC bikkies again after so many years!
