Where to find Christmas stockings

I am having trouble finding Christmas stockings. I have found a few but they have been kind of small and a bit too "country-ish". Anybody know of anywhere that has a good selection and/or really stylish Christmas stockings?

Re: Where to find Christmas stockings

ha! i thought the same thing-i haven't seen any really nice ones, so my son and i went to the fabric store here in lausanne, bought fabric and made some really nice, big ones. it wasn't that hard and i don't have a machine so i sewed them by hand and honestly these are the ones that (hopefully) he'll take out with his family when he gets older!

but i'll keep my eyes open if i see any in the area-

That is so funny that you brought this up. While I was out searching today I saw some nice Matelasse quilted table runners and I thought to myself, "Self, why don't you just stitch up your own?"

If you ever want to borrow my sewing machine, I brought it from the US with a giant transformer-thingy, so it works here just fine.

Re: Where to find Christmas stockings

So, I know this thread is a couple years old AND I really don't expect to find any anyhow but...

Is there any chance anyone knows where to find some Christmas Stockings?

I am contemplating going ahead and making some myself but I'm hoping to get some as a surprise to hubby - having craft supplies and scraps around will not keep the surprise very well.

Re: Where to find Christmas stockings

Well this isn't really a Santa Claus country, more a Nikolaus & Schmütz (?) and it all happens on 6th December!

Suggest you make some stockings in secret at your friend's house.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saint_N...ive_gift-giver

The tradition of Saint Nicholas Day, on 6 December, is a festival for children in many countries in Europe related to surviving legends of the saint, and particularly his reputation as a bringer of gifts.

The American Santa Claus, as well as the Anglo-Canadian and British Father Christmas, derive from these legends. "Santa Claus" is itself derived from the Dutch Sinterklaas.

But the Christkindli does come on Chrimbo Eve delivering pressies so the stockings are still available and needed for that.

PegA try Globus, Manor or Jelmoli.

I second Sandgrounder's advice. I saw some lovely ones in Manor a few weeks ago as well as some really nice advent calendars.

Re: Where to find Christmas stockings

We visited some Christmas Markets in Germany and France and saw some. We haven't visited any in CH yet but you might want to keep on the lookout if you do. Although I'm not sure about Swiss tradition - do the kids leave their shoes out like in Germany and only get candy and gifts in them if the kids have kept their shoes clean and non-stinky? I much prefer stockings

Re: Where to find Christmas stockings

They had some really beautiful ones at the Christmas market too last year. I haven't been yet this year but if I see any I'll report back as we are heading there on Sunday. They were all handmade and unique....although a little pricey

For stocking fillers you can also get some very cute things for adults as well as kids at Manor. Although I'm sure you have your own ideas already and wouldn't be surprised if someone's going to be treated to some of your famous baked goodies.

Re: Where to find Christmas stockings

Thanks muchly ya'll! I actually went to Manor today and picked up some that were cute but not "too cute" for hubby and I - and even regular price they weren't as pricey as I'd feared.

They did also have some that were more cute (juvenile) ones on the same floor as the toy department, in case anyone is looking for a pink one with a skiing princess.

While we were on that floor we also ran into a bunch of folks dressed up as Star Wars figures - we saw a boy of about 7'ish taking a photo with Darth Vader even. The Manor at Claraplatz is open until 10pm tonight, so maybe there is still time to have your photo with BoboFett if you're so inclined.
