| | | Want to play music in Basel?
Hello,
I am a fiddle (violin) player and singer and would love to find other musicians with whom to play here in Basel. I am open to playing in many styles, but particularly enjoy gypsy jazz, bluegrass, celtic, and other folk. I usually play by ear and improvise, but can also read music. I have played in many bands, but am equally happy to have a casual group of friends with whom I meet once every week or two to play tunes.
A little about me: My husband and I moved to Basel from Ithaca, New York a couple of months ago to do research in Ecology at the University of Basel. We will likely be here for four years, and would love to find some other musicians. I haven't played classical violin in some years, but would also love to find a casual classical group (quartet? string orchestra?) to join.
If interested, I'd love to hear about your interests and experience.
Cheers,
Kate

Hi Kate,
Sure, I would be interested. I am a chromatic jazz harmonica player (a mouthful...just like the instrument). I am looking for people to play with for fun, to improve and if the opportunity arose to perform.
If you are interested let me know. Now we would need a rhythm instrument...any bass players, pianists or guitarists interested?
Cheers
Rich

Hi, I play piano and sing a bit (jazz, blues, country, some pop). Used to play out quite a bit in bars and lounges, but have not found the right venue here in Basel. I am always up for a jam session and have an old upright piano - not ideal for classical but perfect for honky tonk, blues and country. If you guys would like to give it a try, just pm me and we can sort something out. cheers and look forward, sully

I play clarinet and although I am definitely classically trained, would love to have the opportunity to play with others. LEt me know if you think I'll fit in.

hmm cool,
i did classical clarinet when I was young and then stopped for a while, just recently started playing a bit again and try to do some jazz, also bought a tenor sax and are fiddling around a bit but I miss a bit of a goal to practice. Would be cool if I could find a group to get my skills up, and play together.
also to get improvisation skills, i'm used to reading from sheet.

Looks like you posted this back in November. I'm a blues/rock n' roll guitarist. a drummer and myself have been working together but the neighbors pitched a bitch yesterday and we are now looking for another room. I've got a yamaha psr 1500 and have been looking for a good keyboard player. I hope your still around...let me know if your interested...Johnny e.

hey johnny, been out of town but got your message. Yeah, let us try something out. Why don`t you pm me with phone contact and we can set a date. I`m in old town Basel in a house with thick walls - so jamming is not a problem. cheers, stefan

Sounds really good fun. Wish I could play an instrument :-(
Still, if you ever get any gigs...I'll come and listen to your gypsy folky fiddle ensemble!

I am also interested in finding some people to play music with. Is anything happening with this?
I used to play cello and have started practicing again with the idea of eventually finding some people to play with casually. I played with a tango orchestra for a few months and would like to try this again. Have also been teaching myself to play piano-classical and jazz.
