| | | American or UK style bed anywhere?
Hello,
We are looking to buy a high bed. I think are better chances are in Germany. Do you know of any stores or any shopping centers either in Switzerland or Germany?
Thank you in advance!

Yes, they are much higher. Either their base is higher or they require a mattress/box spring.
Best

Ah... OK. I prefer to collapse onto my bed. Any night time activity in my house doesn't involve scaling the north-face of the divan...

I looked into getting an American style bed when I first moved to Zurich. One option was to buy a "Heavenly Bed" from the Westin Hotel. It is extremely comfortable and lots of great accessories. It is a little pricey. If you go to the Westin.com site, you can find a section for European buyers. Sheraton and the W Hotel, are also owned by same company, and have their versions for sale.
There are several long threads at www.fatwallet.com on all of these beds. Go to the sight and use the search function on Heavenly Bed or W Bed.
Or you could start here: http://www.fatwallet.com/t/18/625405

fduvall

You could look into the Dux bed. THey include a box spring & matress. http://www.duxiana.se
There are several stores in Switzerland that carry them. THere are also some hotels where you can try them.

I know a second hand bed that is for sale, but it is in the Black Forrest in Germany (about 50 mins drive from Basel). It would not be available until end of July though. Our friends only want a small amount of money for it.
Happy looking.

If you buy an American size bed here, you won't be able to find the correct size fitted sheet in most linen departments, since the mattress size is different than the European...something to consider. Unless of course you already have the sheets and are just looking for the bed.

Sofitel sells also their beds: http://eu.soboutique-hotelsathome.com/EN/default.htm
The beds are just awsome.
If i remember correctly, they were not horribly expensive. Soboutique is also kind enough to make availabe special fitted linen for those beds....
Happy dreams!

Thank you in advance! | | | | | I too searched for the american type bed and found that in IKEA. Look for "Sultan" series of bed with springs, it was the nearest one I could find. The mattress too was of "Sultan" series with springs.

| | | High Beds, Thick Mattresses?
Hello everybody,
I'm originally from Switzerland, but lived in the US for the second half of my life and I very much got used to the HIGH BEDS and thick mattresses.
I cannot stand these low beds, and thin mattresses. Might as well put a mattress on the floor than to sleep on one of these strange objects!
Ok to my questions! Can anyone relate to me here? Does anybody know where they sell American Beds, high off the floor and THICK nice king size mattresses?
I greatly appreciate any feedback and hope you all have a great weekend!

god i hope we dont encounter this... we will be staying in Zurich a few days and i would hate to sleep on a low bed with a thin mattress as much as having a thin feather pillow. is this the standard there? should i look for an american chain hotel there such as hyatt or hilton?
