Any Migros or Coop with the laundry/cleaning supplies. Migros even has a couple of different scents. Normally in a white jug/bottle with a label. Nothing fancy.
Look for the word "javel". One brand sold at leshop.ch is La Croix. Coop and Migros have their own brand names.

Or do you mean bleach as amonia for your hair? I found somethng similar just across the border in Weil am Rhein but I am sure hairdressers must have it... |

Our local Coop doesn't sell bleach, Oh, how I miss my Domestos to clean the loo. However, Migro sell bleach, it is called Axxel (javel) I also stocked up with domestos in Carrefour in Mulhouse last week when we shopped there.
It seems really strange that it is so difficult to find, nothing cleans as well as bleach. Hope this helps.

Looks like my joke got deleted. (bleach + knox reference)
Sticking to the topic, no reason why it should be so hard to find it especially given its environmental impact is so low.

You can buy Domestos at the famila centre, just over the border to Germany in Rheinfelden. Its open until 10pm Mon-Sat. I go most Saturdays so if you would like me to pick you some up it would be no problem.

OK, I beg to differ with this whole Javel = Bleach. Yes, it is quasi-bleach, but it is soooo watered down/environmentally safe that it does not actually function. Here's a clue, (and I know, because I have bought at least 6 different kinds in my futile search), if you smell it and it does not take the top of your head off, it is not real bleach and it will not eradicate mildew nor get your husband's tighty whities white.
I tried to smuggle in a gallon of Clorox from the US last month, but TSA snagged it.
Here's my question. To restauranteurs, I KNOW you must have a secret source for full-bore bleach. I owned a restaurant for 15 years and we went through gallons of it every month. PLEASE share your source and I will eat in your restaurant once a month for life! |

I don't know what it is, but it is uniformly used in restaurants, hospital, day cares, smells the same.
For small surfaces and WC, I have found that deadly spray - Dettol, works fine. They have larger packing of it, too. Otherwise, this country is not too big on antibacterial stuff. While it seems to be overused elsewhere, still comes handy from time to time.

There is a drogerie just below the train station in Lausanne (across from the Modern Cinema ) that sells the 5% variety. Cost is CHF 2.30 per bottle. The higher strength might help.
For reference, Clorox bleach is 6,15% sodium hypochlorite. http://www.thecloroxcompany.com/prod...leach0505_.pdf
Good luck.

The chlorine in bleach can also bind with organic material in the marine environment to form organochlorines, toxic compounds that can persist in the environment. Chlorine use is a particular concern for those who live in areas such as Victoria, where there is not even primary treatment of sewage wastewater before it is discharged into the ocean.
There may be some circumstances where bleach use is necessary for disease control, but there is little need for it on a regular basis. Tests have shown that washing counters and other surfaces with soap and water removes most bacteria and there are a number of oxygen-based alternatives for laundry uses of bleach. | | | | | (source)
Honestly, why the obsession with destroying every last bacterium in the UK and US? It is really not needed and probably even counter-productive.
I'm also never swimming anywhere near Victoria!

| | | Bleach?
Hello
Does anyone know where I can buy hydrogen peroxide or plain bleach (as some of you might know it) I have been using it around the house in England but cannot seem to find it anywhere here for some reason?
Thank you
Beatrix

I saw a proper big bottle of bleach in coop yesterday and got rather excited
in Migros they sell a spray cleaner in a purple bottle called Potz - there are 2 or 3 different ones get the one which is called Xprrt Multi-Javel-Cleaner
Or in larger coops look for a big bottle called Javel Wasser (i think) - Javel is the name for bleach

You can get hydrogen peroxide in pharmacy, but don't know how big of a bottle.
(I wouldn't use so much javel - chlor - on big surfaces in the house, like all the floors once a week, esp. if you have kids, since you and all people inhale all the toxic vapors, it's a major lung/eye/soft lining irritant).

You can buy Javel (Bleach) tablets in larger Coops. That way you can make a weaker or stronger solution as you need it.
Agreed about the irritant bit - I tend only to chuck a couple of tabs down the toilet once a week or so and that's about it. I used to have to use it when I was a teenager working in a food shop and scrubbing down the storage and surfaces on a Saturday afternoon. God, it was awful stuff.

But big surfaces, auch, all the time? People get asthma and stuff, I used to have conjunctivitis all the time when I was a nurse and inhaled sterilized floors vapors.
Manor has started selling nasties/free range of home cleaning products (it's made by Henkel, anyways, probably efficient). I want to try them, no so expensive.
