Disposing Broken bed

Dont know where to rant in the Complaints Corner or ask for some advice over here. I choose the latter, probably because of the festive season

I bought a double bed from conforama, (160 X 200) a few months back. This bed broke recently because the center beam was of cheap quality, so much so it also damaged the frame of the bed. (the wood of the frame where the beam was joined actually cracked out and had a wooden splinter)

give a thought to the festive season and spare me the blushes of asking me my weight or what I was doing on the bed

Options in front of me
1. Try repairing the bed using glue. Not comfortable with that unless someone can reccomend a really strong wood glue.
2. Dispose the wood some where (legally offcourse)
3. Use the wood in my fire place (If I ever figure out how to use it) / offer it to other forum members who know how to use a fire place.

Options, reccomendations are welcome..

p.s. reccomendation from my end.... Conforama sucks .. avoid it like plague

Re: Disposing Broken bed

Well i dont know if Zurich is the same as Geneva but here i see all the time pieces of furniture on the sides of the street and people come and collect them in a truck. Dont know though if you have to get it out on a specific day or you have to call someone

As for conforama, i got all my stuff from there and everything is perfect. Must have been your luck

or heavy use of the bed

Re: Disposing Broken bed

1st: I would really complain in no uncertain terms to Conforama. Unless you were bungee jumping onto it, I would expect it to function as a bed!

2nd: only option to dispose of the bed (if Conforama don't want to pick it up for you) is by calling the ERZ (Rubbish/Recycling Zurich) and ordering "Sperrgut" (= disposal of bulky items). Of course, you will have to pay for this, so you may want to see if Conforama will refund you the money for the bed and the disposal of it (or at least the disposal).

There are a lot of threads on here re. garbage disposal, so you can read through those options there.

Re: Disposing Broken bed

Fireplace choice is good if the bed is made of proper wood, none of that glued on thightly stacked layers of some weird chemically filled substitute that sets off toxic fumes when burnt in a fireplace...

Seeing that is is the festive season, I have decided to be half way nice.

What were you doing on the bed?

Re: Disposing Broken bed

doing what beds are meant for

BTW.. Thanks Crumbs for the suggestion to go to Conforama
They have agreed to replace the defective pieces for no charge as the bed was still under warranty.

Only problem is that they will take a month to get it.

Hmm. Sounds fun.

I'd complain to Conforama. I wouldn't let it go, given the facts you've given so far...

BUT, if I wanted to get rid of a bed the easiest way in Basel is to take it to the dump at Birsfelden. They weigh your car on arrival and on departure. A helpful chap aids you in unloading and gives you a chitty for the type of junk (e.g. if it is an electronic device - nothing to pay ). You pay according to weight, and if it is chargabel, then it seems there's a minimum charge of about 6 CHF. But that covers 20Kg of burnable rubbish.

Maybe there is one near Zürich.

I'd put the mattress on the floor and the bed frame against the wall until the part arrives for just a month.

Re: Disposing Broken bed

quick update.
over 3 months and conforama have still not managed to replace the bed

I have made multiple visits to their showroom but the staff there is very unfriendly and bluntly says its late..suck it up.

Are there any other authorities I could complain to about this?
