Picture/poster framing Basel

I have a couple of large prints (1.25x0.4m and 1.0mx0.8m approx.) that I would like to get mounted and framed. Does anyone know of a suitable place in Basel? People have told me that it will be expensive but nobody seems to have any personal experience or recommendations.

Ready made frames aren't going to be suitable but I've had frames and mounts made in the past for reasonable cost (not gilt or anything, just a card mount, wooden frame and glass). Any suggestions would be great.

Cheers

Re: Picture/poster framing Basel

1) Manor do it
2) Migros at M-Parc
3) There's a small shop/company on Gueterstrasse, Tram 16 stop Solothun strasse (?) near cafe del mundo.

Yes, IMO, it is expensive for what it is.

We've used (3), she was quite expensive, c. 200 CHF for an antique map (kind of between A3/A2 size). As it was a good map, we felt it worthwhile, but I wouldn't do it for something like a poster.

Can you get something from IKEA (Pratteln) that will fit?

Re: Picture/poster framing Basel

They aren't standard sizes and these are good quality prints (not being able to afford the originals) that merit the right choice of mount and frame material and colour. I had similar frames made in the UK for under 50 and they really make the difference. I know the place in Gundeli and could try there but wondered if there are others (there must be but are they any good?).

Thanks

Re: Picture/poster framing Basel

I believe they have a framing shop as part of Chat Noir in "downtown" Basel. I've not used them so have no idea of quality or prices BUT as they sell prints along with the option of custom framing, I assume they do pretty well and are at least not considered terribly expensive by the locals.

Do you know if any of these places will sell just the picture glass to replace a broken pane?
