| In this art, at the beginning stages you don't use any weapons, but training in several weapons (sword, staff, others) is required once you get your black belt and move up to second, fourth, third degree black belt and so forth. I don't have my black belt yet, but have started the testing process (there are several tests required to get it, and the fact that my instructor is back in California is somewhat slowing down the process), but having a keen interest on swords I asked and obtained permission to slowly begin that type of training.
On the other hand, I hate sparring and competing in tournaments, so we have gone slow on that end. My instructor's policy has always been to let me progress at my pace, while making sure I was meeting the minimum requirements of my level - my point is, while I still dislike sparring, now I can handle some of it better than if it had been pushed onto an "unwilling me". I guess you could make the same point about weapons.
In any case, I am sure others will be able to suggest/recommend other weapon-less arts | |

Alright, thanks for the explanation about your passion.
Tai Chi seems nice, I might give a try... when I find some spare time.
