Anyone know where I can find a good bead/hobby shop - am hunting for bugle beads (long thin beads) for my mom....

Re: Hunting for Bead Shops in Zurich

I know of a beads shop in Sihl City. Not sure about the floor - but I guess it's on 1st or 2nd floor. As you enter the mall, there's a Swatch outlet on your left. The beads store is just above it (either on 1st or 2nd floor).

Good luck!

Re: Hunting for Bead Shops in Zurich

There's an arts-and-crafts store in Kuttelgasse (just off Bahnhofstrasse) in Zurich that might have something.

here's another just for beads: http://www.beadbox.ch/

Re: Hunting for Bead Shops in Zurich

I have seen a bead shop just across the hotel Leoneck (that's tram stop Leonhardstrasse, just one stop further from the main train station than Central, tram nr. 6 and 10). Have never been inside but it looks quite ok.

Re: Hunting for Bead Shops in Zurich

Look at www.perlenshop.ch . My daughter has ordered from them in the past and the service is very quick. Also most Manor stores have a fair selection of beads in the handicrafts department. In the one on the Bahnhofstrasse I think that's on the top floor- the same floor as household and textiles.

Re: Hunting for Bead Shops in Zurich

I've just remembered another shop where you can get beads. It is located near the tram stop Rennweg. I've bought soapstones and modeling clay that you can put in the oven ("Fimo") there in the past, but they have many other things. Also beads, I think.

Re: handicrafts

The first on EE's list, Leibundgut, is THE place to go in the city. They have a very good range, but it is a bit pricey. Take the tram down/up Bahnofstrasse to the stop "Rennweg".

Beadbox offer classes in bead stringing and jewelry making. They have a couple of shops that are beautifully laid out.

Re: handicrafts [seek store, course]

There is a Basel-based mail order company that sells all types of craft things in English (French and German too) - run by two american ladies - called Cards and Candles. You may wish to compare prices / selection to that sold by Swiss shops. I find their service very good.

Website is http://www.cardsandcandles.ch/

Bastelboutique Leibundgut really is a good shop. If they don't have something they probably can say you where to get it.

Bead stores or suppliers in CH

I'm not sure if any of you are beaders, but I'm getting a bit desperate because I promised my sister-in-law that I would bring her some Swiss beads and haven't found anything yet. Her creations tend to be made up of various combinations of glass beads, gemstone beads, pearls, silver, and a bit of gold.

Are there beads unique to Switzerland? Does anyone know of an interesting, local source for beads?

Moral of the story - never promise to bring something back from Switzerland until you know if it's possible to find it here!

Well, I dont' know really if there are any swiss beads as such. But here is a link to Beadbox http://www.beadbox.ch/index.php?lang=de
and you can find them in Sihlcity Zurich
http://www.sihlcity.ch/Geschaefte/BeadBox.html
They sure have tons of beads to choose from. Did a search for Beadbox in the French part. http://www.beadbox.ch/index.php?opti...id=101&lang=fr
