| I was away on holiday in Greece this summer and dropped my digital zoom lens in the sand (very intelligent I know!!!).....So i sent it to Nikon here in Switzerland and they quoted me CHF650 to pull it apart and blow the sand out of it.....That sounds ridiculous to me, particularly as there is nothing broken in the lens (no replacement parts are required)
I was wondering if anyone knows someone who could do the job for a more reasonable price. Any ideas?

Really depends on what lens it is as to whether it's worth it. Bear in mind that taking lenses apart and putting them back together again is far more complicated and labour intensive then you would imagine. If it's got sand in it then they'll probably have to completely strip it down, inspect it, clean it and then rebuild it with extreme precision. That's going to be a lot of work, so 650chf doesn't sound too extortionate for what could be the best part of a day's work. Also while you say there is nothing broken, you don't know this. There's plenty of damage that sand could have done, even though the lens seems to operate normally.
Best left to the pros IMO
