I'm a US citizen currently working as an independent contractor (in the US) doing software development. All my work is done remotely, so I could do it from anywhere in the world. I'd like to try living abroad for a while, and Switzerland seems like an ideal place to be.

All the information I've found about getting work permits seems to be geared toward working for Swiss companies, is it possible to get a permit that would allow me to stay in CH but work remotely for an american company? I have a steady contract and could show that I can support myself financially there, but I'm not what the best course of action is. Does anyone have any advice?
