Another Update - I went to the Passbüro last Thursday for the finger printing and picture. My doorbell just rang and I now have my Swiss Passport in my hands.

Just a little over a month later, I received the confirmation letter from BFM in Bern that they have my application.
Anyone know how long until the police stop round?

Saw it ages ago and the police officer reminds me of our Hausabwart (who keeps a little black book on our Quartier ) | Quote: | | | | | | | | | | |

I'm married to a Swiss (6 yrs), requested the forms and they came within a couple of days. I've gathered all my proofs of residence and sent all the papers off day before yesterday now just to wait for the dreaded interview!

Tom | | | | | I think it depends on your canton as to whether or not you "get" to have an interview. I wouldn't count yourself unlucky if you didn't have to pass that step on the process. It seems that some places are more thorough than others.

A friend here had an interview, so I'm assuming I'll get one too. She was asked if she'd ever been a prostitue... She was not impressed!

(for example, I got my citizenship from SG while living in TI)

She said she was just shocked into silence! There was no misunderstanding due to language as she's French and had her interview in French.
But what shocked me the most was when I told a Swiss friend. She said, why shouldn't they ask that? It's not illegal in Switzerland so it's just like asking her if she was a banker. I can't believe I actually had to point out to her that they didn't ask her if she was a banker and NO, it's not the same.

Well hallelujah my friend has finally had some movement on his citizenship application. They asked for proof of taxes paid and no debts (?) and some kind of declaration of his family/marriage by way of a form in the mail a few weeks ago. Yesterday he got a letter telling him to expect an interview in the upcoming weeks. He's very excited...having waited nearly 18 months with no action he was actually starting to become convinced that the application was lost, being that it seems like everyone here and that he knows had at least a few minor follow up things going on during that time...so now it's just hurry up and wait some more, but at least with the knowledge that things are in motion...

Mailed my application form end of March and got a definitive approval in early October -6 months in total. Very quick and smooth - I was truly impressed Especially, after getting a letter in the beginning, where they acknowledged the receipt of the docs, saying that the whole process is about to take 18 months! No additional documents required, no interviews etc. But our local police paid us a Sunday visit in August (they were very polite). FYI - I live in canton Schwyz.
