Dual EU/Non-Eu citizenship and B permit

Greetings all. Just moved to Zurich from the USA less than 2 weeks ago,
to begin a new job here. This site has been a gold mine of information to me the past month or so! I am curious if anyone else has already been in the same situation as me, which is as follows:

I am a citizen of both the US and of an EU-15 country (Greece).
Not having needed an extra passport in years past, only have a US
passport.
When I got my visa to come to Switzerland, and my B permit, it
was on the US passport.
From what I gather it is much better to, even with the same level of
residence permit, do so coming with a passport of an EU country. This I can obtain without trouble (never know how long it will take, though, if
anyone thinks swiss bureacracy is tough, the greeks take the cake)..

Now that I'm in Switzerland on a B permit assigned to my US passport, though, do I just wait until next year when it's up for
renewal and then pop in to the Kreisburo with a Greek passport instead?

Most importantly I am seeing that my wife (who does not yet
have Greek citizenship, just US for now) might have a better situation
if my B permit was based on a Greek passport rather than a USA one.

am I right in thinking that?
Would it make sense (or even be possible) to update my data before
my current permit is up?

I've not found much online about anyone changing this infor after
coming to Switzerland..

many thanks in advance to anyone who might know more about it!

best,
Hellas

Not only for your wife but also for you. Your permit is valid for one year and an EU permit is valid for 5 years that saves you some SFr 50 per year. With your wife, there is no guarantee the Swiss will actually let her in if you are not an EU citizen!!! I would strongly recommend going and getting your proof of EU citizenship and taking this to the local aliens Bureau - they will deal with this quickly although they will not (almost certainly) give you a different permit until renewal time.

Re: Dual EU/Non-Eu citizenship and B permit

you are still a Greek national - I'd perhaps ask the consulate about paperwork to prove that short-term (and get a passport sorted).

As you have a B already, things are not so bad for you.

by the way, there's no need to press enter to wrap your posts, the forum will do it for you
