[Help needed] EU-National (PhD) and Non-EU partner (work) Residence/Work Permits

Hello, I have been following this forum for quite a while now as I am to move to Switzerland for a PhD degree however I cannot seem to be able to piece together all the information I need.. I would be glad if you could provide me with pointers either to other threads or to external links and I am greatful, in advance, for any help thus provided. First, the background. I am a 23 years old EU-Citizen of Greek nationality. I have completed both my Undergraduate and my MSc degrees in Scotland, UK. Recently I was offered a PhD position in Switzerland (Zurich) which I accepted. The University informed me that they will create and submit all the necessary applications for my residence and work permit. Shortly thereafter, my girlfriend of Non-EU Nationality (25 years old, just finished her PhD) has begun looking for jobs in Zurich. Now the questions.. Firstly, in one of the interviews she's had, she was told that I was to take care of her Residence permit. However, I am unaware how I am supposed to do so, unless we get married. I have tried looking but unable to find much information on an "Unmarried Partnership" scheme in Switzerland. Does it exist? If it does how can it help us? If it does exist, would it be the same if we went through the same scheme here in the UK in regards to her obtaining a Residence permit in Switzerland? Secondly, if I am not mistaken, I should be getting a B permit. How am I entitled to help my girlfriend obtaining her own residence (and possibly work) permit having obtained such? I will be happy to provide any additional information required.. best regards, exe

you would register yourself and your girlfriend under a civil partnership.

Under a civil partnership (I presume in Switzerland) in regards to residence, work, visas, or in general? Would you be so kind as to provide me with a link of some sort? Would that require me to inform the University that is handling my applications?

Thanks for your help.

Re: [Help needed] EU-National (PhD) and Non-EU partner (work) Residence/Work Permits

as an EU passport holder, you are entitled to live her. On the back of that, a civil partnership can be declared and I believe your non-EU SWMBO can get a permit too.

If you search the site for civil partnership, I think you'll find it can be declared for different- and same-sex couples. Richard will come along with his 2 francs' worth I'm sure
