| | | Canton approved permit C, waiting for Bern!!
I just called the "Service de examan" and been told the my C permit has been approved by the canton of Geneva, file transferred to Bern and should receive a letter within 1 week.
Does anyone knows what happens when file is transferred to Bern and how long it takes from there?
I have been waiting for this renewal since July 2010, so it's nearly 1 year |

As far as I learned from my friends in canton Vaud, it's definitely approved and you will get it in 2-3 months time, so no rush | | This user would like to thank taskalem for this useful post: | |

I was told that it can take upto 6 months to receive permit C, however, it depends on individual case and nationality.

After Geneva told me they approved my C permit, i got a letter yesterday for biometric registration, so i called to arrange an appointment and went today, after finishing the process and paying, i asked how long will my C permit be valid for and if i have to inform my employer to adjust the taxes, the woman looked to her screen in confusion and told me i got a B permit not C
I don't how this being treated, but i were told 1 year ago that my permit is gonna take longer as i'm entitled to a C permit, they had an examination service treating my file for 1 year, asking for every single kind of documents and they send me a letter saying i passed the examination and my file been transferred to Bern, only to find out i got another B permit after 1 year.....this is so frustrating and dis-motivating

As far as i know the lady in the biometric registration does not see your permit type. Talk to the commune. If it's really a B permit then tell the commune that there is a mistake. Good luck.

I'm really sorry for you, I know how disappointing it is. | | | | | My frustration is based on one simple fact, did they really spend 1 year to decide wether i stay in CH or not as it seems to be the case?, not actually having a C permit
I have a 6 years old daughter, job, speak local language, very integrated and so many Swiss friends would recommend me, still they thought if i should stay here or not |

It seems they all decrease the level of all permits by one. The same answer was given to people who waits for conversion from L to B permit. A lot of my co-workers who asked about it got the same answer.
BTW they are probably seeing only your current permit in the computer. In our case she answered about L permit when the decision about type of permit wasn't made yet.

AFAIK, you must write stating specifically that you want the C permit on your extension form.

I were actually told by them that in the system it's mentioned that this renewal should be to a C permit and it would take a longer time to process due to that fact. | Quote: | | | | | Did you specifically ask for a C permit, or did you just assume they would change it after 5 years?
