Help, what documents to prove I am searching for a job.

Hi, I've looked through the forum but found nothing that answers my question. I'm a British Citizen and I registered with my local office a couple of weeks ago for an L-Permit. I've just got a letter through asking for "supplementary documents".
It says I can either present them with:

- a work contract (which I don't have...yet)
- proof that I am looking for a job
- proof that I have sufficient funds to live in Switzerland

The letter also says that they expect a response by the 9th of November. I'm aware that to prove I have sufficient funds to live in Switzerland unemployed, I would need to have obscene amounts of money in my bank account (which I don't have ) I am struggling to think how I can prove I am looking for a job though.

The letter did mention something about RAV registration. But from what I read on the forum, that service is only available to those who have made contributions to RAV from being employed in Switzerland previously.

What do I do now?

I believe anyone can register with the RAV; what you cannot do is claim unemployment benefit unless you have contributed for a certain length of time. But unemployment benefit is paid out by separate payment organisations, not by the RAV.

If you are registered with the RAV, they will provide you with an official form once a month, on which you enter details of your job applications (name of company, position applied for, etc.). This would definitely be accepted as official proof of job hunting... but maybe copies of your application letters and any responses you receive would also be accepted? What exactly did the letter say about RAV registration?

You prove how you`ve been looking for a job, by having copies of your job applications, the adverts you replied to, and the replies you received back from the firms?

Ja, first you contribute to RAV, and then you are entitled to a period of subsidised unemployment - while searching for another job.

Or ... you go back home.

I don`t think the amount of money you have available needs to be obscene - just enough to cover your living and mandatory expenses (with provided proof).
Or .. if someone is "sponsoring" you (family), then their income and explanations of how you are supported, and why, and for how long, etc.

I think? I may be wrong, but that`s my take on your problem.

Re: Help, what documents to prove I am searching for a job.

My German is still pretty weak but from what I've managed to translate, the letter just gave "Anmeldung RAV" as an example as proof of job searching.

I've had one interview since coming here which was really promising but the company unfortunately decided to stop hiring. I've also sent other applications but have received rejection letters. Everything has been done through emails so far. Would I be able to just print off the emails as proof?

Well, the RAV certainly accept rejection emails as proof that you have applied so yes, I would have thought that your Gemeinde would also accept that.

Re: Help, what documents to prove I am searching for a job.

Just an update for those who might view this thread in the future. After speaking to the guys at Migrationsamt, even though it is my first time applying for an L-permit they basically ignored the proof I provided that I am looking for a job (i.e. job adverts and rejection letters). And since I am currently living with my boyfriend who has a B permit they asked that he filled out a form they gave us called a "Verpflichtungserklärung", get it notarised and provide his 3 most recent payslips as well as the "Betreibungsregisterauszug".

Re: Help, what documents to prove I am searching for a job.

The "Verpflichtungserklärung" is a joke someone figured it a while ago.
Basically it means that your BF is liable for you and could be hold liable to pay for repatriation. To my knowledge never being used. The rest is easy to bring by.

I am Swiss, living abroad 20 years, returning (2010) to Switzerland with an NON-EU spouse. Having two common children. They asked me in Luzern (as unemployed) to proof that I have sufficient funds to sustain my family! A 100,000 USD where at the time "just enough"(USD/CHF rate then 1.25)

For me another joke! Lets assume I could not bring up this money? Would they divorce us by law (!as the Nazis did with German and Jews?) What is with the kids, should they be expelled with the mother (They are Swiss Passport holders?) or should we bring them to a foster home? Or do I need to rise them by myself (at the time one was still on breastfeeding - my breast is dry like a well in the dessert, besides the girl tried to suck and it hurts like hell ). I understand they fear fake marriages, but with two common kids??? Give me a break, please!

George

@ mtv, are you claiming unemployment money from the UK? You are able to, the RAV can help you claim it, it does take a while though.

Thanks. I guess this was the one thing I didn't come across while researching L-permits.

I'm not claiming unemployment at the minute. I thought it best not to since I'm currently technically self-employed with my UK-based company (not that it's making any money...yet). I don't even want to think how the taxation rules will apply in a few months if I find employment here.
