Hello Experts! I currently have an "L" permit and am living in Zürich while working in nearby Fehraltorf. Because of the generally high cost of everything here, I am considering living in Konstanz and just commuting to Fehraltorf. The reason I am able to live in Germany is because I do actually posess an unlimited working and staying permit for Germany.

This would make me a Grenzganger (border crosser). However, because most "Grenzgänger" are EU citizens and I am not an EU citizen there may be complications.

Does anyone have any experience with this situation? Can "L" permits be converted to Grenzganger permits easily? Will I be put in a Swiss prison soon?....etc

Do bear in mind though that that thread refers to Geneva, rules might/will almost certainly be different in other Cantons.

Another interesting difference in my case is that I already have the an L permit and a job.
