I have recently recieved a job offer in lenzburg.
what do i have to do to get residency and work permits and am i able to get all this before i go out there.

as a uk citizen your entitled to them automatically, you have to get here first, stroll along to the town hall, give them a copy of your work contract etc, sign some forms, pay a fee and that's it

within 14 days of getting here iirc

As a Scot, you are EU and need visit the City Council of Lenzburg with your passport, employment agreement and rental agreement, a formality basically and the permit will take anywhere between 2 weeks to 2 months to be issued ( but you are allowed to work and live the moment you arrive - best to register with the City Council within 8 days of arrival ).

In addition to the above you will also need to provide proof of health insurance or give an undertaking that this is being obtained. I got my B permit on this basis but was actively chased after until I got the Insurance paperwork to them to prove I had cover. Regards Phil

The 14 days is when you need to register your address with the canton, starting from the day your permit is issued.

As EU you have 3 months to get a permit.

Your employer might even sort it out for you if you ask them.

I havens registered my address - wasnt aware of that. Havent received my permit from OCP yet

In Basel Stadt I was told I have 8 days to register with the canton. I took my employment contract with me and they gave me a very simple form to fill out. I walked away with a temporary permit (which I paid for) and a few days later the B permit arrived (which I was then billed for).

As a UK citizen, my B permit is valid for 5 years. If my emplyment contract was a short term one, then I would probably have been given an L permit.

No mention of health insurance. Whether they would have chased me after 3 months if I hadn't got health insurance, I don't know, as I had it in place by then.

You can go to the town hall, or you can send the documents to them (that's what my employer did)

As far as I know to register as a resident of Geneva you will need to go to the Office Cantonal de la Population in order to be issued a certificate of domicile.

I have been to the OCP about my residency and they said it is going through the motions

but I haven't been to the Town Hall yet - guess I should have done that first? Have been here about 4 weeks now so not sure what the penalty will be?
