I just got an offer for a job, but they asked me if i have my work permit...
is it possible to get a work permit without having an actual work contract?

From my understanding and here, your permit comes after you sign the contract.

Maybe they were asking about your residence permit? Since you're EU there shouldn't be any restrictions on them hiring you apart from whether you are able to reside here.

Do not know in what EU country you are from(my response applies to 'old' EU countries), but I guess work permit it should be no issue for your employer.

You can sign the contract and start working. Just go to your local place where you live and register there. Show them your work contract and you will get the work permit after a while. maybe some weeks or so, but can start working without it.

Did you register at the commune you are living? If so, yes. If not, no.

No. Not for an (old) EU citizen. Are you as you say in your profile actually Greek? There is no such thing as a separate work permit.

You don't need a working permit and therefore you will not get one!

Just go the village and register. You don't need to have a working contract to register. But you will need a rental agreement with enough space (heads of family plus one) - thats it.

Then you have to register yourself with the BfM (Bundesamt für Migration) in your canton and you will receive your B-Permit. Usually within a week or so, but not more then a month. First timer could take a bit longer

This B-Permit will give you right to seek employment.

No employment permitted until valid residency - this is everywhere in the world the same! These two processes could run side by side in cases where you your employer has to prove that he will bring in someone from an unqualified country.

But your country (Greece) is qualified for free residency.

As you have the right to work here anyway, you can start to work without having all papers in order. There will be no penalty.
If you from another country with no free-residency agreement and you start working without residency permit, this could end in loosing the residency (non-law abiding citizen)
