I am a non-EU citizen studying in India. I found an internship (duration: two months) in Zurich and my employer is willing to apply for the work permit for me.
In order to get the work permit, I need a letter from my univeristy which states that an internship is compulsory for my studies. The problem is that my internship isn't compulsory and my university will not issue such a letter for me. Is it still possible for me to get the work permit?

I had a similar problem when I did an internship in France, the French make you fill out this contract which is mandatory in the French system but completely unheard of in the US system. My university wound up telling the French employer "tell us what you need us to sign" (e.g. "do it for us") and they signed it. Surely someone in your department, the director, could sign whatever the Swiss provide or, in a worse case scenario, sign up a letter you typed?

You can't do the internship without the letter tho, I'm afraid.

Due to some rules, the university is not all being helpful and they told me the maximum they can do is give me a no objection certificate.

A friend of mine who did an research internship at EPFL last summer told me that he was not asked for any documents as the university had not applied for a work permit. He was asked only to apply for a student visa. So, I dont really know if a work permit is required for a student internship. I would be grateful if someone could give me more information on whether a work permits required or not.
