| | | How do I get a work permit?
Hello,
Can someone please help me, I have been given a 2 month internship placement with a design agency in Zurich, the employer has asked me to find out how I am to get a work permit, I have been on the Swiss Immigration website but I continue to go round in circles, is anyone able to help me with some simple information about the next step, I said I would email her tonight with what needs to be done.
Thanks in advance. (incase you haven't read my introduction I am from England.)

Since it's under 3 months, it sounds like you don't need a permit, just need to register with the local authorities. | Quote: | | | | | Hello,

Thanks a lot for your response, I am planning on staying here for longer than a year though and this says for a limited time stay, forgive my naivety if I gain a full time contract after this will it still be possible for me to get a longer permit?

You need to apply for a permit for stays longer than 3 months. The work permit is the same as the resident permit.

So, the only way to be in Switzerland without any permit, is to be citizenship of an EU country (Germany, Italy, France, etc), or from Switzerland... interesting... =)

Where did you get the idea that any EU citizen could just mosey on down here to live? Switzerland isn't in the EU. It's a party to the Schengen Agreement, but that doesn't confer on anyone the right to stay in Switzerland -- only the right to pass without border controls into Switzerland from a neighbouring signatory to the Agreement.
More info on the Schengen Area here.

There is no separate work permit. There is only one permit which is both a resident and authorization (or not) to work.
