EU Student - Need Additional Permit to Work?

Hi all,

I searched for the answer to this but I'm afraid that I only really came across answers for non-EU students.

I am an EU student wanting to work the 15 hour per week maximum, but I'm wondering whether I need to apply for an additional work permit?

Thanks!

Re: EU Student - Need Additional Permit to Work?

I found a Q & A link from the Federal government:

https://www.antworten.admin.ch/SECO/...nellsuche/4190

You can also submit a question to have an authoritative answer:

https://www.antworten.admin.ch/SECO/en/fragen

English is available as are national languages in CH.

In the interim, I hope someone on here can answer your query.

Re: EU Student - Need Additional Permit to Work?

The answer is no (at least it wasn't for me in the canton of Friborug).

What happened to me was that I found a job when on an L permit (short study period) and upon next renewel of my permit I received a short term B permit.

Just something to note which you didn't ask but took me over a year to figure out and may be of interest to you. You will be taxed (at least in Fribourg) a flat rate of 10% income tax at the source (along with social contributions which for me were another 8.75%). This is considerably higher than what a non-student would pay. Non-students on the same wage and horus wouldn't, in fact, pay any income tax. I guess the 10% tax is to contribute towards the low cost of education here.

Hope this helps!

Interesting, thank you!

I'll be living in Zurich - not sure what the student taxes are there. Tried having a look but will have to dig further!

In Fribourg they are under Barème D (Scale D). It was quite well hidden in the site however and had to ask my boss to point me to it. I've since lost the link and no amount of searching has allowed me to find it again.

Anyway, all the best in the job hunt

Son long as you do not exceed 15 hours/week, you are allowed to work as a studend without a work permit.
