Related follow up question .... for a friend...

Is it ok or prohibited for a non-EU tourist visitor here on a Schengen visa (obtained in an EU nation) to *seek* work ? i.e. post cv to agencies, companies, put message on certain notice boards, and possibly attend interviews ?

She is Russian and is particularly interested in using her native language in a possible job so that the work permit would be supported (given that there is clearly not a huge pool of fluent Russian speakers with banking experience available here). If there is a job offer she would need visa help from the employer.

Prohibited - maybe she read what she signed on the visa application.

Forgot to mention: if she is caught, she will be banned from ANY Shengen country for the next 5-10years! The chance to be caught however, is very, very small. The chance to get a job is even smaller...

But if she sends the same cv to the same website while sitting in a Swiss (or any Schengen) location that is prohibited ? That is my understanding of the situation. Seems a fine line (to monitor/police).

Caught to do what? Sending CVs? Anyone can send CVs from anywhere. You don't need to be in Schengen for it. If you come to interview, you have the full right to do it. Who is going to be "banned"? Don't be funny.

Surely that person would typically arrive as a tourist (and hence break the visa condition). Am I missing some information ?

There are lots of Russian speakers around; unless your friend has very specialised skills or is being sponsored by a large Swiss-based company, it will be very hard to secure a permit.

Regarding the permission to search for a job, I guess anything is possible, as long as you don't ask don't tell.
