L permit for spouse

Dear all,

I am an Indian national currently studying in London with a job offer from an employer in Switzerland. The employer has agreed to file for my L permit (for work and residence) and for my wife's 'residence L permit'. My questions are:

1) If we both get the above permits and go to Switzerland, can my wife look for work and change to an L permit that allows her to work if she finds an employer?

2) If our permits are issued by Canton Zug, can she look for employment in Zurich?

Many thanks in advance for your help and advice!

The employer will have to go through all the problems of getting a non-EU permit for your wife to be able to work. It's very difficult. But just like you are getting a job offer with a permit, you wife could too if she has special skills.

Yes. She can look in Zurich, but it's the same thing. The employer much go through the process of getting the permit for her.

Re: L permit for spouse

Hallo,

First, your employer must sucessful to get you the "L-permit" then you can only proceed further. The latest news I know from my friends is, the L-permit may take more than a year. (Depends on how your employer deal with Zug Kanton) although from the website it said only take about 3 weeks.

"L-permit" holder can apply for his spouse to live together but this is case-by-case basis. It is not gurantee. For your infomation, "B" or "C" or other type of permits is "entitle" to apply for dependent permit.

Anyway, you must go through all these... L -> B -> C ->?? permits...
Good luck!

Eric

It takes 3 weeks.
The Swiss immigration service will not keep a Swiss company waiting for a year to fill a position and issue a visa.

If the company you will work for is big in the Kanton and your job offer is a permanent position you could even get a restricted B permit, restricted to that company who employs you.

Re: L permit for spouse

Hi miniMia, EricC, and 17Clarence,

Thank you so much for your comments and feedback. The L-permit did come through for me in 3 weeks and the residence permit for my wife a week later. Now are planning the move and she will seek a sponsor once we get there.

Thanks!
