italian going to work in lausanne with non-EU wife

Hello everyone,
I am new to this forum, probably this post has been answered somewhere else, but I cannot find a good answer.

I am italian citizen holding and EU passport, I am planning to move to Lausanne where I got a job(Nestle')
My wife is from Colombia and she does not hold an italian passport yet.
We have lived together for the past 10 years in NYC-USA.

What are the steps I should take for her to be able to come with me?Does she need a visa to enter switzerland? What kind of permit will she allow to?

Thanks for your time.
Sebastiano

Re: italian going to work in lausanne with non-EU wife

look at the related threads and then consider that the thread you might pick from those was posted before the quotas were removed for EU citizens. Then you have your answer.

I also believe that your wife could get an Italian passport without a problem but would recommend she does not use that passport to enter Italy if she can help it - in order to avoid the annual €35 charge that you Italians are supposed to pay!! (no joke!)

Re: italian going to work in lausanne with non-EU wife

I'm EU (UK) and my wife is non-EU (Canadian). We moved to Lausanne in 2005 because I had a job offer. We both got given 5-year B-permits without any trouble. So far, the only advantage to her obtaining an EU passport would be to make it about 15 minutes faster to get through customs when flying to the UK, so she has not yet bothered.

Re: italian going to work in lausanne with non-EU wife

It should no longer be assumed that A professional EU citizen will find it simple to get a B permit in Switzerland. My Italian partner( lived together for 8 years and I( a brit citizen) applied together three months ago. A company did not apply on our behalf be cause we both intended to continue working in Italy were we both consult, but to live near Lugano. I work for my own company and he as an employee. We handed all our docs in and have waited three months. His eventually arrived last week, mine not, although the house contract and deposit etc is on my name. I assumed since I have my own business, I gave them tax records, invoices and bank records to prove my ability to support myself. They asked for more. Still waiting, they were far from efficent, and we are very stressed and in limbo as I can't apply for phone internet etc for my business till I have it.
Perhaps an expert can answer, is this normal proceedure, that with a couple they give one EU partner a B permit and not the another?

ehm... sorry for bothering you but... what do you mean with Italians have to pay 35 eu every year? It is the first time I hear about it... shouldnt it be a free mobility agreement? Is it a fee to leave Switzerland after appling for a permit?

Thanks from a confused Italian...

Donnas, but you guys are not married.
I believe this makes a difference.
The only thing that I am confused, is that it took 3 months for your husband to get the permit???Should it be much faster for EU citizen?
