Just out of interest (and also to check on my application for my newborn) I called the UK passport office today and was told that they have not heard about the option to get travel docs for newborns who dont have a passport yet to travel to the UK, and that there is only dispensation for those already with passports about to expire who can get 12 month extensions. The staff their are absolutely clueless....
Will make an appointment with the Embassy in Bern.
Just reporting back. Passport arrived today. So thats roughly 6 weeks turnaround time. I did not send my passport along with the documents, just a colour photocopy. All seemed fine.
Passport got issued a day after the embassy in Bern got in touch with the passport office to verify the paperwork in order to issue emergency travel docs -- I get the feeling the embassy helped to push things along.

Yes I agree but the people who got it translated said that the problem was that the United Kingdom for where the parents were from was in German and this alone was the reason for the translation
I haven't done it myself but the three people I know who have done it all got the UK passports for their kids using the international version issued here in Neuchatel ( French speaking part) without a translation and the oarent's nationality was obviously written as Royaume Uni in the text. If you're going to get a translation anyway there's surely no point in paying the extra for the international version of the certificate.
