What permit should I expect - B or L?

Hi Forum,

Here's my query. Hope somebody can help me out.

I worked in Zurich from Jan 2004 - Jun 2006 as an IT consultant for my firm. In Jan 2004 I got an L permit valid for an year. This was renewed in Jan 2005 for another year. In Jan 2006, I got a B permit (I heard this was because you cannot get an L-permit for more than 2 years). Anyway, in Jun 2006 I returned back to India after de-registering myself at the kanton office.

Now, I will be landing back in Zurich next week and have a 1 year Work Permit that says "Aufenthaltsdauer : Befristet auf 12 Monate" and "Zulassungscode : 2001 Kurzaufenthalter".
Would somebody know which permit I would get - B or L?
(Somehow my spider-sense tells me that an L permit awaits me)

Definitely sounds like an L.

"Zulassungscode : 2001 Kurzaufenthalter" = L permit

Thanks for the answers :-)

So, the fact that I "worked" my way to a B-permit in my previous stay does not hold any relevance at all? I will still need to grind another 2 years on L-permit and then be eligible for a B-permit?

Correct on both. By the way, you are only eligible for a B permit if you have a long term contract, regardless of the time you spend here.
