Visa collection in non-home country?

Hi, I am an aussie waiting for my employer (in switzerland) to organise my employment visa (i dont know the name of the visa, but i think its the 6 week visa, as i wait for the longterm one). They said I have to pick it up from the Swiss consulate in Sydney before i enter switzerland. but does anyone know if you can pick it up from any swiss consulate, or does it have to be the one in your home country? for example would I be able to go to germany while i'm waiting for the visa(to do a german course), then pick up the visa at the swiss consulate in germany and then enter switzerland?

I will try and call the consulate on monday, but its not open over the weekend and i'm trying to organise things!

Thanks

S

Re: Visa collection in non-home country?

You can pick it up anywhere outside of Switzerland. You have to tell
this to your employer so that they notify the appropriate consulate.

I am non EU, and I picked up my Visa in Stuttgart which is
2.75 hours by train.

Hope it helps!

Re: Visa collection in non-home country?

Actually i just had a thought... So would I be able to enter switzerland for a couple of weeks, then just pop over to germany to pick up the visa, then come back? or while i'm waiting for the visa am I not allowed to enter switzerland?

Thanks for your help!

Re: Visa collection in non-home country?

You just enter Switzerland initially just like you're a tourist. Australians
can stay in Switz. 3 months on vacation without a visa. After making
arrangements with your employer, go to Stuttgart or wherever and
pick up the visa.

You didn't say whether you are coming to Zürich or Geneva area.

Lyon is probably closest to Geneva.

If you're in Basel or Zurich, Strasbourg is also an option.
