Self-funded training while on RAV

Does any body know if it's ok to attend some training that you pay for yourself while collecting RAV money?

If you still meet your quota of 10 or 12 applications per month does any body mind?

It's not allowed as your not available to work, you can only claim benefits if they arrange & pay for the course. It's not payment whilst doing further education of your choice.

Well I was certainly paid while on training courses not paid by the RAV last year. And yes they knew about them and considered them a positive activity to improve my chances of getting a job. They were short term courses though, lasting a week in each case.

Re: Self-funded training while on RAV

Can you elaborate more about it being "not allowed as your not available to work, you can only claim benefits if they arrange & pay for the course. It's not payment whilst doing further education of your choice."?

I have just registered at RAV today having terminated my employment with immediate notice since my company hasn't paid me for many months (I have all paperworks in order). I am in my second year part-time MBA with a University in the UK, so will it be okay? I have the appointment scheduled with the RAV consultant next Tuesday.

Thanks!

If you tell them your doing a part-time MBA you are only available part-time so will get reduced benefits. You have to inform the RAV is you go to the UK.

Now that hurts... I have been doing my MBA on distance while doing full time job since 2013. It is a 3-year programme and it takes about 2 hours evening time and weekends (my own time) to do it.

Will that affect my benefits? I'm self-funding and if they reduce my benefits I simply cannot afford anymore.

As long as you don't do it during the working week, it's OK. Getting them to believe this 'story' will be fun

So they don't have the concept of distance learning while on full time employment?

The only concept is you need to find 100% job ASAP, if you complicate your advisors life in any way, you will likely live to regret it.

CV's need to be written for the exact purpose it's being used for, i.e custom for each job. The CV you give the RAV need to contain the information they want to see nothing else.

So what would you advice? Should I include my MBA study in my CV? That's certainly what I would put to the potential employers. And I certainly don't see how it could affect my 100% for job as I have been doing that for last 5 years. But to the consultant it might be different story

Read what I have written again, if you can't work it out do what you think is best.

You said it yourself, you're doing this in evenings and weekends? I don't see a problem here. When RAV told me they wouldn't pay for a german class my rav beraterin said i can always do one in the evenings and pay for it myself (as if i was working).

All RAV cares about is you doing the applications every months like you're supposed to and that you're available 100% of the time to work if you want 100% benefits.
