Travel to US with Attestation form

Hi!

I'm a US citizen planning on traveling to the US for a few weeks. My Swiss student visa was for Sept.-Nov., meaning it's expired. I have the Attestation of Residency stamped form, stating that I am a resident in Lausanne since September. However, I have yet to receive my residence permit. My question is, can I travel to and from the US with this form and my passport? (The Canton of Vaud is notorious for 5-8 month wait times for a residence permit, so I'm assuming it won't arrive before my trip).

Side-note: I traveled to the Netherlands and the UK with this form without any problem, but I'm not sure if that was just luck. Thanks!!!

I assume you're asking about your return to CH? The U.S. will let you in with your U.S. passport, no problem.

Yes. haha. And I will be flying through Copenhagen on my way back, if that makes a difference.

I'm not positive, but I believe the attestation is sufficient, provided there's no expiration date on it. If the wording on the attestation isn't crystal clear, one option would be to head to your municipal office and ask them for a document that specifically says your permit is being processed and that you're allowed to travel in and out of Shengen during the processing time.

You can go to the municipal office in Lausanne and ask for a re-entry visa. I have a colleague who regularly has to do this because of delays in Lausanne with permit renewals.
Think you have to pay for it, but at least you will avoid any problems when you return.

Yeah, I guess I'm just hoping to avoid that. I read that it's about 100 CHF, and if I can avoid that, I'd be glad.
