[EU-17] Staying in Switzerland for 8 months, no job

My girlfriend (also EU-17) are working here on a B permit. I have a EU passport and want to stay in Switzerland with her for 8 months (traveling around and enjoying the country).

I have a pending job contract starting on august which will easily give me a work permit. The question is whether I can stay here until august.

I have and can prove savings of the equivalent of 25k CHF. Would that be enough to get a L permit until I start the job in august?

I would think so. You can register as a job seeker - yes I know you have a pending contract, but there's no guarantee the contract will materialise.

Still, the best thing to do is talk to your girlfriend's commune/gemeinde admin office and ask them as you'd need to register there to become a resident/jobseeker. If they say no, you're probably stuck with visiting for 3 months and then leaving.

I disagree... I'd say you could stay much longer as long as you don't register with the commune before three months prior to your job starting. It's a bit of a grey zone area really and I do not condole any illegal behavior, just saying...

How on earth will they know if you have been in Switzerland or not during whatever time? Switzerland is part of Schengen (that was the last I heard anyway) and you can travel in and out as you please...

It's telling them that you are here that will cause an issue especially based on health insurance and anything that might cost them money.

Just my 2 cents...

Thanks for the answers. I have already registered, they had absolutely no objections at the kreisburo except taking 85 CHF of my money. They noted I may need to provide extra information by mail.

Conversation: "Hi, I want to register here in Switzerland."
- "What will you be doing here?"
- "Travel around and live with my girlfriend" .... "and maybe search a job"
- "Ok, sign this and pay this"

I can update you of my progress.

This seems like over complicating evrrything. You already have a job contract so why did you say you are looking for a job?

you could have waited until you 90 tourist days are over and then applied with your contract directly for you B permit.

Of course once you register you have to pay Swiss health insurance.

I did consider the options I had, and ended up deregistering as I was leaving for a short period anyway. I'll stay (occasionally) here (and occasionally in other EU countries) as a tourist until I start my job.

Do you know how far prior to my contract start date I can register and get a permit based on the contract?

Sorry about the confusion, this was posted with the account of my OH and I forgot to log out.
